a little bit of this and a little bit of that

1. I can’t stand for the skin on my thighs to touch. Blech! For this reason, I sleep in pants every night. This is part of the reason that we sleep with our thermostat on 67.

2. But I’d be sweating more not wearing pants than I do when wearing pants. Skin on skin grosses me out.

3. I also sleep with my feet hanging out of the covers. Gotta keep my feet cool.

4. I’m afraid to admit this on here because when I admitted it to Mojito Maven on G-chat last night she laughed at me. Anyway, here goes. I have strong desires to be a part of a book club, a bunco group, and a supper club. Does that elevate me to a new SAHM status?

5. So I still need to lose 16 pounds to reach my wedding weight, but I’m currently 2 pounds away from pre-pregnancy weight. And a lot of my size 6 pants from back then are fitting perfectly. But I just saw a nas-tay picture of me that was taken this weekend. Oy.

6. My “Crime Girl”, Nina, sent me an adorable surprise in the mail!

7. She sent me this fun surprise because I have a huge issue with stationers misspelling the word stationery. Okay, I have a huge issue with anyone misspelling the word stationery. Or anyone misspelling any word.

8. I’m definitely too critical. But I’m embracing this quality.

9. Nina has also requested the “curl down” for her rehearsal dinner hair. I’m pretty excited!

10. My 2010-2011 MomAgenda arrived and I’m getting my life back on track. No more random Post-Its stuck inside my old MomAgenda.

11. I cooked twice this past weekend. As in big, time-consuming recipes. I made Paula Deen’s Twice-Baked Potato Casserole for a Sunday school gathering. And I made the Red Hat Society’s Chicken Tetrazzini. Both are delicious!

12. I am constantly amazed by people’s strength. I’m reading about blog friends of mine who are dealing with loss and reading about (and talking to) my mom as she battles melanoma. I know it sounds cliche, but these things really make me want to shut the heck up and stop whining about stupid stuff.

13. We played Nertz for two hours the other night and now I can’t stop thinking about playing again. I wonder how many nights I can convince TC to play with me.

14. Hudson has been taking swim lessons every morning this week. I’ve waited for him in the car every day because they suggest that you wait out of sight– especially if your kids look a little sad and are clearly upset. I don’t want Hudson to think I’m coming to rescue him and I want him to learn stuff. But on that first day I could hear him screaming. Apparently he doesn’t like to learn to float on his back. I told the coach not to take it personally because Hudson doesn’t like to lie on his back to have his diaper changed either.

15. I paid an electrician way too much money to do way too little work today. It’s like he came in and robbed me. Except I willingly wrote him a check. For too much.

16. TC is going to read this and he’s not going to be happy about #15.

Update: TC was not at all happy about it. Basically, we’re working to build shelves and cubbies in the future playroom and the carpenter referred us to this electrician so we could add a cable outlet and an electrical outlet. The electrician was at our house for 1.5 hours and charged us $425. I was floored and then I paid him. And then I cried to Todd after he asked me how in the heck all of this happened. I had to call our carpenter and explain to him that I’d used half of our money for this project to pay the electrician and we didn’t have enough left in our project budget to actually have him build the shelves. That carpenter jumped all over the situation and called that electrician and got us our money back! Hallelujah!

Shelf project will commence tomorrow!

17. So I’ll post something else to take his mind off of it. I took this picture and posted it to Twitter back in April. I have to recover a piece of my furniture with this fabric. Love it.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way about skin-on-skin while sleeping! I can’t stand anything touching – I need cotton in between or I go crazy. I suspect it drives my husband crazy because he is the total opposite (if you know what I mean) – I go to bed looking like I’m anticpating a trip to the North Pole and he looks like he’s heaing to a European beach.

And I really want to play bunco and I’m not a SAHM – I think wanting to do that just makes us cool.

  2. says

I love ‘random posts’ I think it’s where people are the most honest. Because really? I wan to be a part of all things listed in #4 and I am not a SAHM or a M in general. I think they sound super fun! I always think it sounds like a great way to meet other people!

  3. says

You and NCF need to stop talking about Nertz…it’s making me want more friends who will come over and play it with me. Why can’t we just all live nearby so we could have Nertz nights??? Seriously…life would be grand!

And I just sent you a tweet about starting an online book club…and I am so serious!

  4. tiffany says

sleep with my feet out too. i also paid someone way too much today-the AC repair man. but, the AC is once agin working!!!

  5. says

    1. Me too!!! Ugh! I have such a hard time finding shorts to run in–and, let it be known, I detest shorts for this exact reason, but, since it’s 5 billion degrees in Dallas, I have to wear them to run–thus, I buy ones that are too big just so that they keep my gross thighs off each other. Ickkkk!! I just grossed myself out.
    4. Totally want to be part of a supper club or book club, or both. I don’t know how to get involved in these things!
    11. I love getting to cook big, time consuming dishes. I don’t know why. Makes me feel all June Cleaver or somethin’.
    17. I just had a heart attack over that fabric and that chair/ottoman. So, so, so pretty. Looooove. I need to recover our sofa and loveseat (cause yeah, it’s getting ratty!). Hmmm….

  6. says

It is a family tradition to play Nertz at Thanksgiving with my extended family. I switch off where we have Thanksgiving now that I am married and the saddest part of being at my IL’s house is that they don’t play Nertz. I think I am going to have to teach them this year. It is SUCH a fun game!!!

  7. says

Pretty sure I just said something on Twitter yesterday about wanting to be in a book club. FOR REAL. And I want to start doing very grown-up things like rotating dinners. Peas in a pod. And I love the chair. It kind of reminds me of my old blog background, haha.

  8. says

I can’t believe you sleep in pants. To me, this is the equivalent of getting tangled up in a cloth prison. Don’t the pants get all tangled in with the sheets?? Or maybe you have silky pants or sheets?

Also, I am in a book club and a card club. Although the book club is mostly me reading books and making my friends read them. Does that count?

  9. says

Well my feet have to be wet when i sleep so there’s that…

And thighs rubbing together? ICKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. It’s why I don’t wear shorts, EVER. But I do sleep in a t-shirt only. Weird.

And I love you anyway even if you are Mrs. SAHM of the Year! 😉 XOXO

  10. says

OMG! I sleep with my feet out of the covers, too! If i’m hot, but not too hot, I stick one foot out to cool myself down. The hubs had never thought of this little trick, but he’s a convert.

And, I couldn’t agree more on the spelling issue. It really irritates me when i misspell something and it irritates me even more when other people misspell something and leave it. Ugh. The other day someone commented on a picture on FB, and instead of writing traitor, he spelled it trader — I had no idea we were still bartering with furs! Ugh! (But, I have to admit, I didn’t know that stationery was spelled with an E)

  11. says

Ha! I love the random posts. And I love that chair…I reminds me of a chair I have that I bought at a NC furniture store in my single days!

My feet are always out of the covers…or lately completely off while my husband is completely covered up…Opposites attract in our case! 🙂

I would love to be a part of a bunko, dinner or book club/group…Maybe I’ll start one when we move to VA in a few months!

  12. Ainslee Barnes Carnahan says

Okay honestly I would LOVE to be in a book club or bunko! I clearly understand that! However feet out of the cover – ahhh I am terrified something will get me! Yes, big ‘ole scaredy cat!

  13. Charla Liedahl says

Oh yes! You must find a book club! I found my current book club through the MOMS Club International. I’ve been in one for about 4 years and I love it. It’s so much fun to discuss great reads…and life in general. (It’s so easy to go off on rabbit trails!) And feet out from the covers? Absolutely! Even when it’s cold my feet are out, sometimes clad in sox. One of my many quirks, to be sure!

  14. says

You want to know something really truthful? I’ve seriously thought about emailing you many times regarding some of my grammar, spelling and etiquette issues when writing/typing. I’m really quite awful at all! Like in my post I just did…judgment.. it just doesn’t look right without the E!!! haha. I seriously need a proof reader. I feel like I’m that bad. And thank you notes? I don’t even know where to begin!

I just get nervous people cringe at how grammatically incorrect some of the things I type are!

Speaking of Nina – when I was on the black dress hunt.. our Stein Mart had that pretty shower dress she wore in every size. I wanted to tell someone..but I didn’t know who to tell. I just remember hearing people tweet that they liked it. I was ready to get it for whoever was wanting it, haha. (random, I know.)

I have a chair from Brent’s grandmother that I really want a fun fabric for! I just don’t even know where to begin. Should it go with something else in the room? Does nothing else matter? Oh, and I must find someone to upholster…for very little money, ha! Is that possible?

    sorry I rambled in response : /

    Erin-
I’m in a book club, bunco group, and supper club in Ruston and they are all FABULOUS! you should start one of those!

  16. says

My feet CANNOT be tucked underneath covers. I sleep with my knees hooked out and around the duvet!

Also, I was eating dinner with a friend last night and mentioned my burning desire to be in a book club. BURNING DESIRE. So I’m going to tell you that this is 100% normal and fabulous!

  17. says

I am EXACTLY the same with my legs and feet when sleeping. Even when it is sweltering I will wear capri style PJs.

I would also love to join a book club – and I am not even a mum yet!

  18. says

I’m totally with you about my thighs touching, eecch. I hang my feet out of the covers too! hee! Yay for all of your weight loss, you look amazing, and nothing less (but I understand knowing the numbers on the scale and looking at pics and being very critical, helloooooo me!)! We’ll have the cards ready for Nertz when ya’ll come visit! I would be in all of those clubs with you if we lived close to each other. annnnnd love that fabric!

  19. says

I’m so glad you loved your snail mail surprise! Everything IS better with a “E” ~ xxox Your Crime Girl

p.s. Just a few short days now until we see each other again!

  20. says

I love these kinds of posts, just little nuggest of info! 🙂

I’m not even a SAHM and I want to be in a book club and a bunco group!

  21. says

I’ve been a lurker for a while. Mainly reading blogs with a toddler in your laps makes it hard to “reply”. My lap is currently toddler free, so I thought I would come out of lurking tonight. haha!

I sooooo relate to the thighs touching, but I have a thing about sleeping with pants on in the summer, so a pillow is my friend! haha! And I stick my foot out too! I had to giggle at the book club, bonko club, and dinner club bit. I just joined two out of the three, but didn’t think about it speaking to my “SAHMness”. I’ve never heard of the momagenda, I’ll have to check that out!

  22. Brenda C says

I want to be part of a book club, supper club and bunco group. But I an not a mom and I don’t stay home!

I just don’t know how to get hooked up to people for the group 🙁

  23. says

Erin you are so funny, I love it when you do post like this 🙂 I am in a Bunco group and I just joined a book club and supper club 🙂 Funny how SAHM moms think the same 🙂

PS You could always move to Charleston and join all these groups with me 🙂 because to me you just seem like a Charleston kinda girl 😉

  24. says

#4 and #5-I think you are reading my mind. The problem:
    1. I LOVE food, like seriously. I apparently love it more than wanting to loose these last 15 lbs. I refuse to go up to a double digit pant size(although trust me, been there done that-not going back) I too have seen a HORRIFIC pic of myself, but somehow managed to blame the angle, lighting, and “time of the month.” Who am I kidding-I looked fat.
    2. As far as the book club, Bunco, and supper club well…my friends don’t like to all read the same book at the same time, no matter how many times I try to explain Bunco to them they get confused, and their idea of cooking is popping frozen toasted ravioli in the oven. I’m screwed. I think I might need some new friends if my desire to do these things will ever come true:)

  25. says

I hate for my thighs to rub together also. They always have a little bit, but when I was pregnant, it became a HUGE problem because I gained so much weight. I’m using it as my main motivation to get rid of the baby weight fast 🙂 I have to sleep with one leg out of the covers at night. That electrician did rob you! So glad you got your money back! I’m willing to be that if TC had been there instead of you, he wouldn’t have charged that much. I hate to sound like that, because so many people play that “it’s because I’m a woman” card, but in some cases it’s very true and that’s sad. Can’t wait to see pics of the finished playroom!

  26. says

Just moved my appointments into my new momAgenda this weekend! And then I promptly had to ‘line through’ something – my husband switched call weeks with a co-worker. 🙁 I wish they made correction tape in momAgenda blue!

  27. says

Such a fun post. I love the random ones. That bag is great! I’m with you – I hate grammatical errors and I cringe when I realize I’ve made one. It’s just the worst feeling.

I too would love to join a book club, a bunco group and a supper club. And I don’t think there’s a thing wrong with it! Unfortunately, I don’t think any of my girlfriends feel the same way. We’ve talked about it, but it sounds like mostly they’re interested in getting together and drinking wine and not so much in discussing books, playing bunco or cooking meals. Oh well! Hopefully they’ll come around. 🙂 Until then, I like getting together with them and drinking wine.

  28. Laura says

on your reccomendation, i bought a “myagenda” last week and have already started using it. i don’t know how i lived without this thing!

  29. larkin says

erin, i am in book club, bunko, and supper club and am not a SAHM. I’m not even a mom. it doesn’t make you a prototypical SAHM, it makes you southern. this is we we do in the south. we like clubs. they are fabulous. plus i write all my dates in myagenda. you should start one of these clubs and fill up your momagenda!

  30. says

I, too, haaaate skin-on-skin and sleep in pajama capris so that they don’t go too far down my leg to be hot, but enough material that I don’t have my thighs stuck together. Email me if you want a rec for this ‘happy medium’ in sleepwear:-).
Also, whenever I’m in charge of workmen coming in the house to do a project, I get nervous and end up making mistakes/having us pay too much for not great work. I feel your pain-esp when hubs gets mad:-/. I’m glad you had a happy resolution to your issue!
p.s. If you can’t find a local book club, I’m looking to join one two-we could be super 21st century-like and do a skype book club! Just kidding, but I definitely would love to exchange books since we seem to have the same taste in literature and it’d be fun to talk about!

  31. says

I totally keep my feet out of the covers every night. I need them to be nice and cold while the rest of me is nice and toasty (you know nice and cold when our thermostat is set on 77). And can i tell you I have been looking for a bunco group to join for about 2 years now. It is my life goal. I LOVE BUNCO. And if you started a book club online I would totally join. And I’m glad you got the electrician money situation worked out! Love you!

  32. says

I’m with you on #4. I made the comment to Adam that I would like to be in a book club, and he laughed at me! (I’m interested if you start an online one!) I also want to hear more about Nertz and how to play. I love to play games, and this one sounds like it would be fun.

  33. says

I would loveeee to be in a book club, and I don’t care who knows it. What are you reading right now?

I’m so sorry about your Mom’s battle, I’ll pray for her, she sounds strong.

    What is nertz?

What makes a Mom Agenda so great? I’ve only ever seen the outside of one.

  34. says

I would love to be in a book club and start a supper club. Or a brunch club. I don’t know much about bunco but I would join if I lived near you. That is one awesome carpenter!

  35. says

Love a random post! It is my grown-up housewife goal to join a bunco group… so fun! And a book club sounds wonderful, I would love to be part of that.

Totally with you on pants in bed and keeping the house cool. I sneak over to our thermostat every day to turn it down below 70. My husband doesn’t understand why I like to freeze the apartment and then bundle up in cozy pjs and blankets ha!

  36. USCEmily says

I hate the misspelling of stationery, as well, and another one that bugs me is cemetery. I can’t tell you how many times I see a Cemetary Road (spelled JUST LIKE THAT) while riding down the road. Drives me nuts. Oh, and one more- definitely…how many times do you see people spell it “definately”?
Ok, I’m getting off my high horse, but bad grammar and spelling really bother me, as well!

  37. says

Hi Erin! I was not sure where to write this request, but do you have any good recommendations for birth announcements? I am looking for something unique but not too pricey. I love your taste and thought you may be the perfect person to ask for direction! You can e-mail me at tkampsnider@gmail.com or leave a comment on my blog. Thank you!

  38. anna says

hey! i love your blog! i started a cooking club about 18 months ago and it is my favorite thing i have ever done! i picked 7 other girls who i knew even though they didn’t all know each other. i knew they would all enjoy each other. we work through one cookbook a year. the host picks the menu, cooks the main dish, and assigns everyone else something to bring. we meet once a month at 7 pm and eat and laugh way too much! you should consider! email me if you have any questions! it’s fun-i promise!

  39. says

As an English teacher, I hate when people misspell words And, I’m totally addicted to my MomAgenda. AND I love my book club and supper clubs (two of them – one to replace the bunco, I suppose?!).

    I feel a strange connection to you… 😉

  40. says

Oh, Wonderland Pearl!!! I’ve sent you the link to the discount online place right? It’s cheaper than my bff designer could get it.

Also, I’ve decided that I’m not judgmental, critical, or snobby. Instead, I’m particular!

I can’t wait to see Nina with a curl down- adorable for sure!

I have to be cold when I sleep, and get “nerve” when random parts of my body touches. You’re not alone.

Hmmm, I hate times like what happened with your electrician. Even though you know something is wrong, you feel helpless and ignorant.

  41. says

I would have called the hubs and bawled if I had to write a check for that! That’s highway robbery!

I sleep with my feet out too. Makes the hub crazy because he wants the sheets tucked in. Oh well…

  42. Tiffany says

I also hired an electrician and had no idea what to pay him — but I knew that the electrician I called gave an estimate that was too high (approx $400). The second guy ended up doing the job for $175, plus we ended up using him for two other jobs. Not to mention that I now know someone I trust to use for other electrical jobs in the future.
