i promise…

  • to wake up with a smile on my face every day.
  • not to buy another thing that i don’t need. Target, you better watch out!
  • to only say “yes” to the things that I really want to do.
  • to have a good attitude about things I choose to do and not to be a martyr.
  • to put Jesus first, Todd second, and Hudson third.
  • not to buy a single piece of fall or winter clothing until the temperature hits 70 degrees.
  • to complain less and praise more.
  • to pay attention when talking to my friends and not to let my mind wander to the things I’m stressed about.
  • to start cooking again!
  • to stop looking toward the future and live in the moment.
  • to be better about keeping in touch with my dearest friends.
  • not to feel defeated when things don’t go as I planned.
  • to stop getting mad at Boudreaux for being so crazy.
  • to figure out why my hair is turning yellow and get a better hair color!
  • to laugh more and take things less seriously.
  • to be around people that make me laugh more and help me takes things less seriously.

Those things probably should have been New Year’s resolutions, but I’m going to work on them in July.

I spent most of the weekend completely stressing out about Music Camp and was completely worried (like sleepless worry) over how it would go today. And you know what? It went fine. I wasted too much time worrying about it and I was honestly taking it too seriously. Simplify! Laugh! Enjoy the day!

What promises are you making to yourself on how to make each day a little easier?

I love this. One that I’ve been really convicted about lately is “stop looking to the future and live in the moment”. Life is so good! And I know that…I am so blessed. I’m just having constant thoughts of children and wanting a family and “when will it be our turn…” I’ve really felt God’s hand this weekend calling me to live in the moment and enjoy the moment. Isn’t it nice when we put it all in perspective? Love your list! XOXO

You should follow me on my blog (not sure if you do). I’m doing a Menu Planning Monday review of Pocket Full of Posies and I’m cooking nearly evernight, good meals in less than 20-30 minutes! If I can cook (and trust me, I can’t) than anyone can do it!
As for buiying things — I’m trying hard too but not being successful. Need to have more faith in myself.
Putting Jesus first – I need to remind myself of this….currently, I’m not, which honestly has caused turmoil in my house. Whenever I’m stressed, I need to think Jesus!! Just the one word…and then proceed. In fact, I think I’ll just post his name randomly throughout the house so when I see it, I’ll take a breath, then move on.

Thanks for the inspiration! I really need to focus on some of those things too.

I too love Target and get carried away when I go in there. I need to focus on only buying needs, not wants. I think the last one fits me too…I really am trying to surround myself with positive people. I need laughter and fun and NO stress 🙂

Good promises. I like your list. I need to stop taking things the wrong way, especially from my husband. I (way to often) take things in a negative way that were not meant to be that way at all. I also need to stop having so much anxiety about getting everything done. Enjoying the moment and keeping Jesus always in the picture are SO important!

Great list! Rebooting your New Years Resolutions halfway through the year (or just coming up with new ones!) is such a great way to keep perspective and make sure you’re constanting challenging yourself to grow and improve. You’ve motivated me to take a look at my own goals. Making an effort to live in the moment and not tie myself up in knots over the “what ifs” and all the things I can’t control is a daily challenge for me.

I promise to put away laundry when I do it, rather than letting it sit in the basket for days err…weeks:-/). I get stressed when I look at the heap of clothing, so if I actually put it away, it won’t be there to stress me out!

I love this post. I have promised not to take one minute with Amelia for granted. As soon as I start worrying about thing like laundry and dishes, I remind myself that she’s only this age once and I can do it when she’s sleeping. 🙂 And I most definitely surround myself with people that make me laugh…makes life way more fun!

I really like the praise Jesus first, husband second, and child third. I often feel like hubby gets the back seat b/c I am loving on Lilly all the time. Oh..and I always need to try to cook more since I don’t ever cook. I also promise to not get frustrated with Lilly on a daily basis and cherish what few days this summer I have left with her before going back to work!

Your posts are always so refreshing and help remind me of what’s important, too. I esp liked the one about letting your mind wander as friends talk, but I really find myself doing this when I’m in church. It’s my only time REALLY to myself all week so I end up thinking about other stuff instead of having my mind with God. Then it hit me, that it’s just about the same as if I went to visit a friend and immediately got on the cell phone with another person while I just had one hour a week with this friend. RUDE! I’m trying to be better about this now.

Once I get back from vacation next week, I will vow to eat almost ALL fruits and vegetables since the harvest is starting to come in here in Wisconsin. YUMMY!

Great list 🙂 One thing that I’ve set for myself over the years is to not worry about things that are beyond my control, and to remember that God’s always been there for me in the past. Even if things don’t look the way that I think they should, they have always turned out better than I could have imagined.

I promise to quit stressing over this room I’m redecorating and quit trying to make it perfect! And I promise to get fit this year! And to smile and laugh more and be present in the moment I’m in!

I love your list! This is just the boost I needed on a Monday 🙂 I need to remember to live in the moment too and enjoy every second — I am in the midst of planning for our wedding and am determined not to let stress or little details bother me. Your posts always lift me up! Thank you!!

Also – have you ever tried the Blue Malva shampoo from Aveda? Its a funny dark purple color but is supposed to rid blondes of that “brassy” look. I use it and I love it!

I love this post! I really needed to hear it today too. It’s so important to not stress over the little things but it’s something we do all the time. I love the idea to “simplify”!

Beautiful post! Thank you for the excellent reminders! Things do always work out and I wonder why I worry. I try to remind myself that God takes care of the little birds and He will take care of me even more! I promise not to worry so much about housework to prepare for visitors and instead to be in the moment and paying attention to my husband!

What a great list! I honestly could have written it myself. It’s crazy how significant others, children, and daily life can throw plans/goals off so quickly! Thanks for sharing!

And I’m a redhead, but my bottle-blonde sister uses a Bumble & Bumble shampoo for blondes (think it’s purple?) that she SWEARS by to get rid of brassiness!

I love this post, and should make a list like this for myself! I have been so frustrated with myself lately for not living in the moment and stressing about the future. I also have already purchased a few fall items, which is RIDICULOUS! I won’t be able to even wear a light sweater until December… what am I thinking!??!

I think I need to make a list like this! I think I will do it this week! Love the positiveness(is that a real word?) of this post! U are always so positive though! I have the same problem at target!! And I want to buy every sweater I see at the Gap and Ann Taylor Loft! Do the stores not know its summer still! Don’t tempt me! Love u sweet friend

i agree with everything you’ve written, but mostly putting God first, husband second, child third & everyone else after. God is almighty & a better relationship with him will lead to better relationships with everyone & a happier life!
May God bless you & your family! Thank God for answered prayers(your mom)!!

That’s a great list! Here’s a favorite saying: “Worry is just unproductive thinking”. I think all women worry/frett too much about everything…and then it usually turns out fine, just like your Music camp. Have a terrific Tuesday!

I really like this post! I agree with everyone else- you are always so positive and inspirational! Thanks! Its just what I need to do for myself as well. and I was a target spendaholic for a while, but I think I am cured now, but I totally understand the temptation!

I really really love it. I was having the worst day and need to steal this list and hang somewhere
I can see it everyday. I think your wonderful and so happy that you do this blog 🙂

To start every day in the Word whether it be a quick devotional, reading scripture or even popping in a worship CD. At least get my day started off right. Thanks for a nudge in the right direction.

Thank you for this. I have been struggling with trying to do EVERYTHING {even 9 months pregnant} and reading you say you are only saying yes to things you WANT to do really made me realize I need to do the same! Amen!

I think it’s humorous that you won’t buy Fall clothes until it’s 70 degrees. To us in New England, that’s still warm! 😉

So funny that you blogged this! Just yesterday while driving, I told my husband I was making a Mid-Year resolution to be happier and laugh more.
