Happy Independence Day!

I hope you all had a great Independence Day filled with faith, fun, fireworks, great food, and people you love!

Our day was full of exciting things starting with church this morning where we all matched and didn’t really mean to. Todd wears blue every day of the week, but Hudson and I were both wearing blue stripes this morning.

Our choir sang all of the armed forces songs, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, the Star Spangled Banner, and a couple of other patriotic songs. But the lyrics to America, The Beautiful always make me cry. And when I’m up there singing and trying not to cry I pretty much just stop singing so I can try to regain my composure. But these are the lyrics that make me stop and thank God for the heroes of yesterday and today who have done so much for this country. Where would we be without them?

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

After church, we just decided to pick up Bojangles for lunch and bring it home to eat. If y’all don’t live in a part of the country that has Bojangles you need to visit one of those areas soon and get yourself a biscuit and some chicken!

Hudson always needs a nap after church!

Hudson got a long nap and we did, too. When we all woke up we headed over to a friend’s house to hang out in her parents’ pool for a few hours. Hudson loved it and filled up on blueberries! He loves blueberries. (We discovered later, while I was wearing white pants, that too many blueberries aren’t a good thing.)

I took this cake over for the pool gathering. This particular flag cake is Paula Deen’s recipe. Lots of cream cheese and heavy cream in the icing. Pretty sure I’ll be sending the leftovers to work with Todd on Tuesday.

Columbia’s minor league baseball team, the Columbia Blowfish, always play a game on the 4th of July and the game ends with some great fireworks. Todd and I used to go every year before Hudson, so we decided we’d take him tonight. We ended up sitting next to some friends of ours. Hudson loved the baseball game!

We packed a grilled cheese sandwich for the game. Hudson’s favorite meal is grilled cheese!

Hooray for the Blowfish!

How did you spend the holiday?

Looks like you had a great day. We spent the holiday weekend in Ocean Grove, NJ. We had great weather at the beach, the water was warm and it was not too crowded. This town on the Jersey shore, has lovely Victorian architecture, a great boardwalk, wonderful shops and restaurants. The town’s history is linked with the Methodist Church and religious services are held at the Grand Auditorium which is surrounded by a tent city. Scripture is noted at each entrance to the beach and the vibe is very warm and family friendly. It is a wonderful area to visit. We finished the day off with great fireworks and of course, ice cream!

We went to the lake with family. Such a wonderful day! We, too, know that too many blueberries can end up pretty bad! And I seriously miss Bojangles! The dessert is beautiful!

You look FANTASTIC, my dear!! Glad you had a wonderful 4th ~ how did Hudson do with the fireworks? Since we now live in an area where the purchase of “good” fireworks is illegal, we settled on sparklers and watching our neighbors blow up $$$$ worth of fireworks … so I’m thinking it worked out JUST FINE {for us at least}.

And HELLO – we have a Bojangles about 1.5 miles from me … heard they have great sweet tea TOO!

That song makes me tear up, too! and also the star spangled banner! we went to a braves game this week and I truly wasn’t sure I could hide the tears in my eyes while it was playing. I actually looked around to see if anyone else was doing that! I just feel so grateful to live here and so much pride in our country. (I know, so dramatic! oh well!)
don’t you love how excited they get at games when everyone’s cheering and clapping and they do it, too? so cute.
we watched the fireworks at lenox mall last night(atlanta). AMAZING! my toddler loved it. last yr, he was 18 months, and watching the wonder and excitement in his eyes made me cry! (It’s funny, I was never such an emotional person until my baby was born!)

I was at the blowfish game too! Judging from your pics, we were sitting to the right of y’all. We’ve been two years in a row now, and we love it. There’s something about watching fireworks in a stadium. I love that they do the military recognition too. My hubby stood for the Navy! 🙂
