lazy days of summer

I can’t say that summer is my favorite season. It’s just so stinkin’ hot here, so it’s hard to find a little relief. We’re already up to averaging 97 degrees every day. To me, that’s “stay in the house and stay as still as possible weather.” We need a swimming pool, but we’re not about to pay to install a pool.

We actually found a strong bit of relief when we got Hudson a baby pool at Walmart. And I got in with him and cooled off immediately! The pool was huge. All three of us, plus both dogs, could have played in there. But there’s just something yucky about dirty dog and dog hair in the baby pool. Baby pools are yucky enough as it is!

Boudreaux was wishing he could get in, too! And Fiona is not at all interested in getting in any water. Ever.

I think Hudson’s hair looks so funny when it’s wet! And he loves the train pool toys that his KK and Poppie gave him. Thank goodness for the UPF 50 swim shirts by Circo for Target. I’m a sunscreen freak when it comes to Hudson, so this way I can count on these little shirts protecting his upper body.

After we got Hudson all wrapped up in his towel, we let Boudreaux take his turn in the pool. Boudreaux may have been the hottest out of all of us. He has been dropping huge white fur balls all over the place. Poor guy. I think the baby pool cooled him off for a little while!

Anyone else out there prefer the cooler months to these high temperatures?

AMEN. I am longing for hot lattes, scarves, jeans, and sweaters right now. The heat has already been unbearable this summer! I can’t believe it’s only June and THIS HOT.

I’m reading along, cooing at how cute H is… and get to that last picture of Boudreaux. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. Look how happy he is!

Can’t say I don’t love Summer but it has been too hot to be active lately. My little fur kid has a baby pool that he could lay and play in for hours. So glad Boudreaux got a chance to cool off!

Ok, I’m not sure who in the pool is cuter! My dog will not go anywhere near the water, but does patrol for squirrels while I take a dip. I can’t stand being hot and am much more likely to have the windows up and the air on when driving in the summer.

I am summer all the way! Just give me a cool beverage and I am okay- although you will catch me talking about how hot it is, and agreeing that it’s sweltering. However, I secretly love it! I guess not so secretly now.

I love the fun activities of summer, but I LOVE fall here. You can’t beat it…the tailgates, football, the fair, the cooler temps, Thanksgiving, scarves, I could go on and on…

Hudson is too cute. Praying for your mom!!

Cute pictures! I can’t believe how hot it is down there! If only some of that heat could make its way to the Northwest…it is cool and rainy here!

So cute!! My babe is 4 months old and still HATES the bathtub so I am hoping she will like the pool when we take her 🙂

I have to admit that I am a summer lover, but, holy goodness, this year has been just plain nasty hot. I don’t even want to go outside to go swimming!! Love that you got Hudson (and Boudreaux) a kiddie pool! How fun!

Fall is probably my very favorite season, but summer is a close second… so long as I’m dressed in a sundress, sipping something cold, and near to a body of water!

But dang, when I leave work and it’s 100 degrees out… GAH! Get me outta those Spanx!

Usually I am okay with summer but being 30 weeks pregnant has made me long for the cooler fall days. We are experiencing the same high temps in NC and it is not fun. I might see about getting a baby pool just to sit in! I know our fur babies would love it as well.

  12. says

Yes!! I am beginning to long for fall! You know how everyone always tells a pregnant lady summers are almost unbearable??? They’re right!!
But Hudson and the dog do look adorable in that pool and have lifted my spirits today -I keep thinking next year I’ll have a little one to splash around with too!

I am so over summer already and it’s only the first day officially! Non-native Texans think if you grew up here you get used to it, but I don’t think you ever get used to it. Personally, I love Spring and Fall and sadly they only last about three weeks each!

What a cutie! We bought a baby pool the other day, just need to break it out. Little boys “swim shirts” are so much cuter than the girl variety! 🙂

I love Fall and Winter. It’s just so much more pleasant, weather-wise. I live in Tennessee, and it was nearly 100 degrees today. It’s unbearable!

  16. says

I couldn’t agree more, I absolutely hate the unbearable heat of summer! Luckily we’ve been pretty mild so far (for the desert at least), but I know the worst is just around the corner and that it will last ’til October!

  17. says

Looks like such a great day! Boudreaux looks so incredibly happy in the water, I love it! Fall is definitely my favorite season because it’s pretty much the only time we have “tshirts and jeans weather” in DC. The Spring and Summer here are way too humid. I think I can handle the heat, but the humidity, no way!

I like the idea of summer much more than the reality. I just hate being hot and worrying about sunscreen just to take a walk and running the air conditioning all night, just so we can sleep. If we had an actual fall, I would love that the most, but summer tends to last until late November and then winter comes rolling in.

I live in the midwest and today at 10:30, it was 99. By 3pm, it was 104…that was the ACTUAL temperature, so who even knows what the heck the heat index was. And it is VERY humid here. When it’s this hot, I’m with you. Stay inside and don’t do a whole lot. Haha. I’m glad the pool could cool you guys off some and I’m sure the dog enjoyed the brief reprieve, too!

I’m so jealous! It’s been around 50s and low 60s here in Seattle, and pouring rain yesterday. I can’t believe I’m still wearing my winter boots and long sleeve sweaters. I just can’t wait until summer finally comes so I can break out all my summer dresses! 🙂

I live in Phoenix, where it is currently 105 degrees, so I hear you about the heat. It’s only going to get hotter too. Yuck. Every year about this time I start rooting for Halloween to hurry and get here, because that’s when the temperatures usually get around to dipping below 90.

  22. says

So cute! Agreed, summer (especially this one, for some reason) is so HOT! We’ve been in the 90s in Colorado too. I think come late August I’ll really be looking forward to those sunny but crisp Fall days! Plus, who doesn’t love the “change of season = change of wardrobe”!? I do!

  23. says

Ugh! I agree. It’s become almost unbearable!

I love the SPF tees for toddlers. Genuis idea! Boudreax looks so cute on his belly in the pool! We have a dog that looks just like him and she’s been leaving lots of hairballs around our house too with this warm weather.

  24. says

I hear ya on the hot thing. Layla has her own kiddie pool and after walks in the summer she just lays in it! I love how happy Boudreax looks in these pics 🙂

  25. says

Do you ever shave Boudreaux in the summer? I had a golden growing up and we always shaved her in the summer. (She was an outside dog.) I think it really made her cooler in the OK heat.

  26. says

You have the cutest baby and dog ever! Seriously, how hilarious is that last picture though?!? Poor pup must be hot wearing a fur coat year round. :O)

When we lived in our townhouse, we had a plastic pool in the back for the dogs. Tank would just plop down in it and enjoy himself thoroughly. The house we moved to actually had a built-in pool already and the first thing Tank does each morning? Jumps in the pool.

I was born and raised in San Diego and lived there until two years ago when my hubby’s company moved us to the San Francisco Bay Area. Needless to say I LOVE summer (or any season!) in San Diego. It’s a little slice of heaven (other than the tourists.) Now that we live in the Bay Area I am not nearly as fond of summer because it gets HOT here! I never knew that it could get so scorchingly hot in summer (90’s plus for weeks!) and so cold (20’s and 30’s) in the winter. Yes, I know I am spoiled considering I lived 35 years of my life in “75 and sunny” temperatures. All that to say…I share your pain (to an extent!)

  29. says

I most definitely prefer the cooler months! I’m in Texas, so we’ve had the high 90’s for 2 months now! I cannot wait until October gets here!

  30. says

I bought a baby pool for my pups, but they aren’t into it all that much. Definitely not like yours-I love that he’s all sprawled out!

I end up using the pool more than them because it sooooo dang hot!
