it's friiiiiday

I’ve spent so much time this week writing about the birthday party, I haven’t updated on what’s going on!

1. We’re in Dallas visiting my parents. I’m really here to help my mom recover from some surgery she had early this week. She just started a blog to tell her story and it’s called What’s The Plan? You can read it here.

I haven’t mentioned it on my blog because it’s not my story to tell, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been affecting me. Please keep her in your prayers.

She’s the strongest person I know and I cannot get over the strength she has shown during this time. She and my dad are always so positive and upbeat and I only hope that I can be the same way and show that same example to my kids. Replace worry with prayer.

2. The Glee season finale was this week and I cried no less than five times. Quinn having her baby and wanting Mercedes in the room with her, Rachel and Finn singing “Faithfully”, all of the New Directions singing “To Sir With Love”, Idina Menzel adopting Quinn’s baby and naming her Beth, and Mr. Schuester singing “Over the Rainbow” to his glee club with Puck singing backup. Mr. Schuester singing anything is always bound to bring me to tears for many different reasons.

Which song from the finale was your favorite?

3. I’m going to break down and read Twilight. I think it must be the end of the world and Jesus is coming soon because I said I’d never get into this. I think it’s because I’m almost finished with my 2010 reading list and know the Twilight books are easy reads. A 70 year old grandmother in front of me on the airplane today was reading Eclipse. I figure if she’s not a fuddy duddy I shouldn’t be a fuddy duddy. It’s time for me to embrace Twilight. But not Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattison. Sorry, girls.

4. We took our family pictures/Hudson’s 1 year pictures with Tracy Turpen this week. Tracy took our family photos when Hudson was about four months old and they turned out so great! I’m so excited to see how these turned out. I’m sure I’ll be stalking Tracy’s blog until I get a glimpse of the photos!

We had so much fun playing with Hudson on the beach and ended up a sandy mess by the end. It was so much fun and I’m so thankful we’ve found a great semi-local family photographer in Tracy.

5. Last, but certainly not least, my sweet friend Megan had her precious baby Cohen this week. Cohen has a few heart problems and is currently at Childrens Medical Center in Dallas. Megan and her wonderful husband, Brent, are going to have a long road ahead of surgeries, going back and forth from their home to Dallas, and just the general stress and worry that comes with having a newborn undergo serious surgeries. Please keep their family– especially Cohen– in your prayers.

Sometimes in these situations it’s easy to feel helpless. I know that I want to know exactly what I can do to make life easier for their family. If you’d like to help their family, visit Send Love to Cohen for more information! I know they would appreciate the prayers and support.

And hold the phone! This is my 600th post!

I hope y’all have a great weekend and spend it with people you love!

I’m sure having you there will help your mom feel better. She continues to be in my prayers & I’m hoping for a speedy recovery!

I’ll definitely keep your mom, you & your family in my prayers. I was diagnosed with State 2A melanoma about 2 years ago–at age 30–so I can relate to the scary world of the “Big M.” Thankfully, the excision site & the lymphnodes they removed were clear & I’m almost 2 years out! I must say that what has sustained me during the storm has been that wonderful rock of a man, God! He’s guided me through for sure! In reading your mom’s blog entries, I can see that she too is leaning on Him! On another note, I was hesitant about Twilight too but found myself immersed in it & couldn’t put it down–here’s hoping you become a fan too!

I’m glad to know that I wans’t the only one crying during the Glee finale. I love Quinn! She has become my favorite character because she’s now so tender hearted. Prayers sent for your Mom, too!

I read the Twilight books but am so not a fan of Kristin Stewart (could she look more unhappy?!) or Robert Pattinson (not that good looking ladies..). So you don’t have to jump insanely on board like so many others =)

Going to check out your mom’s blog. Glad to hear she’s home and feeling better!

I was the SAME WAY you are about Twilight (I knew I wasn’t going to like them, and I didn’t want to give in)… but, I’m here to tell you that you will LOVE IT!! I have some advice for you, though: Make sure to have all 4 books at hand once you start reading!! I promise, as soon as you’re done with one, you won’t be able to grab the next one fast enough!!!

Glee – Favourite song was ‘don’t stop believing’

and for Twilight, I’m in the same boat.. I think I might break down soon and read it. Luckily all my friends have the books for me to borrow. 🙂

So, you KNOW I loved the Glee Finale, but I’m not sure how I feel (or how we were supposed to feel?) with Idina adopting Beth. For some reason, it wasn’t an “awwww!” moment for me… maybe because it was a little “BOO YA, we won regionals and now I’m going to TAKE YOUR BABY.”

Or perhaps I’m crazy and am the only person who had that thought 🙂 That’s a distinct possibility.

Also… Oh Twilight. I read them all. I yelled at the characters the entire time. But it was a love-hate relationship – I’ll be curious to hear what you think, especially of Edward’s character. My biggest gripe with the books is that the “Abstinence Before Marriage” theme is SO OBVIOUS… and I think teenagers these days deserve a little more credit for detecting subtly!

Thinking and praying for your Mom and know she will be glad to have you there!!!
Megan and her family have been on my heart and know God has a huge destiny for that miracle baby!!!

    Have a great weekend!

eeeeek! I haven’t given in to the Twilight series yet either! I am beginning to feel like I should, and after reading your post, I am one step closer to being convinced. I have held out this long …. haha Happy Reading!! Keep us posted with your thoughts (“worth the read” or “should’ve stuck to my original thoughts”) haha!!

Erin – you are a better woman than I for holding out so long on Twilight. I held out until this past fall. While the style of Stephenie Meyer’s prose leaves much to be desired, I got totally submerged in the story and read all 4 books in 2 weeks.

Keeping your mom in my prayers! I have a 2-inch scar on my back from having some borderline melanoma removed. Been a sunscreen freak ever since. Hugs to y’all.

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom and will definitely keep her and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

I haven’t watched the Glee finale yet so had to skip over that part but I’m excited, I’ve heard it’s great! And I too said I wouldn’t give into Twilight, but when I did I was so happy. It’s completely fluff, but somehow addicting!

  12. Megan says

First of all- I adore your baby boy. I read your blog all the time and cannot wait to have a baby to dress as cute as Hudson!

I am going to Dallas to go to Market in a couple of weekends. It is my first time ever going to Dallas or market. Any hints, suggestions, anything? Where else should we shop the rest of the weekend? Where should we eat? Thanks for any help!!- Megan

  13. says

I added your mom’s blog to follow her journey-she sounds like such a brave person!

Glad you’re jumping on the Twilight bandwagon-the books are awesome 🙂

  14. says

Many well wishes for your mom and your family! Also to Cohen and his family.

I loved the whole New Directions Regional Performance. It gave me goosbumps!

I avoided Twilight for forever too. Now, I’ve read all 4 books. Twice. The books are really good. The movies? Eh. I agree with you. Do not embrace Kristen Stewart or Robert Pattison. However, I strongly suggest you embrace Taylor Lautner. 🙂

  15. says

Wow..I just read your mom’s post..what a strong willed lady. My dad just had a basil cell removed from his nose last fall. While we were grateful that it was not melanoma he has underwent several surgeries and skin grafts due to the location. I cannot believe how strong he is and though he gets bummed from time to time I could not have endured what he did with the same optimism. Hopefully we are approaching his last surgery. Enjoy your visit with your family and best wishes to your mother.

  16. says

The books are good and easy to read (a wee bit trashy, but delightful), the movies however, are terrible! Hope all goes well with your Mum.

  17. says

Praying for your mom and a quick recovery!! i love reading your moms blog! She is such a strong willed women and full of positivity! I bet your mom is so thankful you are there to care for her and I am sure Hudson brings many a smiles:0 to her!!Love you guys lots!

It’s so nice that you and Walker will both be in Dallas with your mom. I’ve been thinking about her a lot, and hope she’s doing well!
I agree completely about GLEE and am so sad it’s over for the summer!
I’ll be interested to see what you think about Twilight. I was very skeptical at first too, but easily became pretty hooked. At times (well often) I had to pause to remove myself from the ridiculousness, but they’re good mindless entertainment nonetheless.

Just clicked over to your mom’s blog–my goodness! I am so sorry that your family is dealing with that, but, so moved by her faith and strength. You all are in my prayers!

  20. says

Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she recovers quickly and you are able to enjoy some extra time with her.

Glee = amazing. Twilight, not so much. I actually started reading them when I was in the hospital and needed a long series and I never much liked them.

  21. says

I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in Twilight! I finally gave in and read them, and couldn’t put them down. I will, however, say that I was a bit let down by the first movie after having read the books. I am so behind on Glee! I need to catch up on them soon!

  22. Jenny says

I’m thinking about you and your mom Erin. I’m so sorry that y’all have to go through this but it will only make your family stronger. We just found out that my mom has a lump in her breast and are waiting to hear the results, so I know just how you feel. Sorry I’m so behind on this… I got married on Hudson’s birthday and was wayyyy behind on my reader! I just love following your blog and wanted to let you know that you have an entire community behind you in good thoughts and prayers. P.S. I’m moving to Charleston in a year for my husbands job, so if you have any recommendations (I’ve only been there twice) I would greatly appreciate them! 🙂
