my fictional dream house: something's gotta give

I posted a picture of “Erica Berry’s” closet from Something’s Gotta Give in yesterday’s post on dream closets and realized how much I love that whole house. Did y’all know it’s not really a house? It was just a set for the movie.

I found some of the set photos at Architectural Digest and will definitely be putting these in my dream house files.

The kitchen and dining room are my favorite rooms from the movie. The industrial range and the endless amounts of counter space. I love that the bottom cabinets were built to look like pieces of furniture in the room instead of built-ins. Β It’s light and beachy, but not pristine. Her cookbooks are out, her cooking utensils are out. It looks like someone lives there and loves to cook.

Todd and I have our hearts set on a round dining table when we live in a house that actually has a formal dining room. I want a giant round table that invites great conversation. Just like the one in the picture above. The interior French doors actually remind me of our current dining area.

And the bedroom… it’s so white and clean. I love the woven shades with the draperies. I love the bay window area that serves as her workspace. There’s so much light and I’m pretty sure anyone would want to wake up in this room. Again, it’s clean, but it’s perfectly accessorized. Stunning.

My other movie dream home is the house from Father of the Bride. Love it. And that baby suite in Father of the Bride II is so drool-worthy.

What is your movie dream home? What do you love about it?

I absolutely LOVE that movie. I have seen it a million times. My favorite part about the whole house is her office area of the bedroom. I hope to one day have a bay window like that where I can sit and work πŸ™‚ I also adore the light and breezy colors in the living room. I wish I would have gone with that color pallete, but with dogs it’s hard πŸ™

Ahh! I love BOTH of those houses so much. I really enjoyed the small splash of dark color in the rooms during SGTG – like the one black river rock in the bowl of white rocks. I also love the house in Brothers & Sisters- especially the kitchen and the backyard- spacious yet intimate. I can just imagine my family sitting around, enjoying dinner & a glass of wine under the twinkling lights.

Like I said yesterday, I LOVE everything about this house. My dream TV house would be Nora Walker’s house on Brothers and Sisters. Her kitchen is beautiful.

My dream house is the one from Father of the Bride, also! I have loved that house since the movie came out, and after all these years, I still love it! I was so excited to drive by the house that was used for the exterior shots in Pasadena, CA. It is absolutely gorgeous.

Love that went with this! Even though they were sets, we always drool over the exterior and interior in the movie. Our dream Hamptons house πŸ™‚

I don’t know that I have a movie dream home but will start thinking about it. In the meantime I’m going to sit here and drool over the living room and pool area! We’re still working on our living room “refresh” and think I just may use some of that room as our inspiration. We don’t have a pool but when & if we ever do….I want an areal like the one picture. Awesome!!

That house was by far the best part of that movie haha…I just love everything about it!

It makes me sad to find out it was all sets πŸ™

I absolutely love that movie (I watch it every time it’s on TV and I can) and I LOOOOOOOVE that house. I think it was one of the first houses in a movie that I ever even paid attention to. It’s fab. But now that I think about it, I do also like Jackie’s (Susan Sarandon) house in Stepmom. It just looks so lived in and cozy.

I LOVE the home in Father of the Bride!!! Its my all time favorite. Everything about it from the basketball goal in the back yard, to the fence around the front. LOVE IT ALL! This was a fun post!

OK, so, it’s not an actual house, but, I’d be more than happy to live on the set. Just sayin’.

Yes, this is probably my movie dream house.

I have always loved the Father of the Bride house…the streets of San Marino really do look like the one in the movie! The other house I have always like was the one in Home Alone.

So funny that you said that about the house from Father of the Bride because as I was reading this post I was thinking to myself that I love that house so much! The kitchen in this house though, TO DIE FOR! Love it!

That exterior, the kitchen, the dining room built in… Oh I just love it all. I haven’t seen that movie in forever so maybe it’s time I take a trip to Blockbuster!

Ever since I saw Father of the Bride I have dreamed of having Annie’s headboard and overall funkiness in her room. I wanted to be her when I grew up. Now, I have physical similarities but no desire to be an architect LOL I wouldn’t mind marrying a guy like Brian though LOL

I love Erica’s house from the movie…I need to be rich so I can have it LOL

  15. says

Ok, I need to watch this movie again! The bedroom – wow! But Father of the Bride has also always been a favourite of mine – so lovely and lived in and loved. And the baby suite – when I saw it at the cinema, the audience gasped at the reveal. YUM.

Although it’s totally crazy that they needed to ADD on to that huge house for the baby suite. They must have had so much space in there!

Without question, my movie dream home would be Carrie and Big’s 5th avenue apartment that they never actually moved into in the movie, for the sole reason thnat I would KILL for the closet after they renovate it. I will always LOVE the Father of the Bride house in terms of decor and b/c I think that it is exactly the picture in my head of what a real family home looks like!

I love the house from father of bride. Something that I imagine our dream house would be and it must be accompanied by the neighborhood too… just beautiful!

My ALL TIME favorite is the house from “The Notebook”. I absolutely ADORE Noah’s house that he fixes up for Allie. Seen here: http://hookedonhouses.net/2009/08/30/the-notebook-noahs-house-with-the-blue-shutters/

I also would just kill for a house like the one in “Marley & Me”, their 2nd home or dream home. OMG was that just breath taking! I love the outside of it and all of the rooms inside. Just so warm and inviting! Seen here: http://hookedonhouses.net/2009/07/26/marley-me-the-grogans-charming-starter-home/

This was a great post. I think I might duplicate it on my blog, just for memory sake.

Oh I remember the very first time I saw Father of the Bride and their home becoming my Dream Home for years! But the Somethings Gotta Give house takes the cake. I could live in her kitchen, for sure! The whole place reminds me of Martha’s Vineyard πŸ™‚

I love that house too. Its AMAZING! I also love the FOB house. My Dad calls my husband and my house the “mini” FOB house. Love Hudson’s Halloween outfit!

I am obsessed with the Aunt’s house in Practical Magic. I love everything about it! Also the main girls apartment in Stigmata!

THIS is one of my FAVS too….The woman who did (director / producer / something like that) this movie ALSO did The Holiday. I LOVE those homes too!

  22. Cherish says

Love love the somethings gotta give house especially the contrasting white kitchen cabinets with the black counters and shiny polished faucetry. Totally inspired me while building our new home and everyone says it belongs in a magazine when the see it! Charlotte York’s apt. and funishings so elegant and chic. But all time favorite movie house is home alone the first one. Such a great family house and dresses up so great for Christmas. Really great real house in an awesome real Chicago neighborhood!
