home tour tuesday: that's not my closet

You’ve already seen my entire house on the Home Tour Tuesday series, but now I’m going to start showing you pictures of houses that I wish were mine!

Todd and I have a decent sized closet for a 1930s home. I mentioned that our attic was transformed into the master suite, so we do have a walk-in closet. It just doesn’t use the space as well as it could and is really a walk-in closet for one. Not for two. But it’s okay. We share. I didn’t ask my sweet husband to put one item out of his closet in one of the downstairs closets.

I do often dream of closets that I wish held my clothes. I’m not even talking about the clothes in these dream closets. I’m just talking about the space. Holy tons of closet space, Batman. Can you even imagine how much better off our clothes would be if they could be stored in one of these closets/dressing rooms? Sweaters would be appropriately cared for and everything would have its place. Y’all know how I feel about everything having its place.

Let’s take a look at some dream closets.

mariah-carey-closet

Mariah Carey’s closet. Miss M, Mimi, Butterfly, whatever she likes to be called. It doesn’t matter. Look at those shoes and how perfectly displayed they are!

carrie-bradshaw-closet

I’m sure I don’t even have to tell y’all that this is Carrie Bradshaw’s closet. I can’t say it’s the most organized, but how can you do a closet post and not include Carrie Bradshaw’s closet? At least the contents are fabulous!

These two are both of Aerin Lauder’s dressing room/office/closet. I don’t think that beautiful puppy is spending much time on that perfect white carpet. The desk is amazing. I don’t necessarily need a desk in my closet, but I’m dying– DYING– over the hand-painted wallpaper.

Truly a girly closet. Via decorpad.com.

Is it bad that one of my goals in life is to have all wooden hangers like in the above picture? So perfectly organized! Also via decorpad.com

decorpad3-somethings-gotta-give

The dressing room/closet from Something’s Gotta Give. I could do an entire post on the house from that movie, but this closet is just beautiful. The clothes are perfectly protected from dust, but they’re still well lit and easy to see. Love it. Also via decorpad.com.

What does your dream closet look like? Do you already have it? Or do you live in an old house like I do and are always coveting thy neighbor’s closet space?

I LOVED that entire house in Something’s Gotta Give. Loved the decor. Loved the layout. Loved the scenery. And, loved the closet! I even hearched high and low for photo albums she had displayed – the ones that had the little metal slot for a description of the album. I am crazy and want ALL of my albums to match.

I WANT TO MOVE INTO THE HOUSE FROM SOMETHING’S GOTTA GIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m with MrsPreppy on the albums too. Matching albums are going to be a MUST for my future family 😉

I would DIE for a desk in my closet!!! So very ultra-chic.

    Great post, my sweet friend.

I love this post. I have to admit that our home built in the 70s has great closets. I was shocked when I coutned them and discovered we have 11 in our 3 bedroom home. I’m spoiled, I know. But, they aren’t very big, just more of them. Not that I’m complaining because I’m not.

I actulally have a great closet for a non-mansion home. It was one of the big things I had to have in the house we built. Of all the closets, I’d love to have Carrie Bradshaw’s new closet from the end of the movie.

Holy cow!! If I had that kind of closet I don’t even know what I would do! Definitely be one happy camper! Love, love, love the one out of Something’s Gotta Give, it truely doesn’t get much better! BTW I loved little Baby Hudson in his sweet Charlie Brown outfit. Just precious! Keep up the great work!

Ahhh I want any of these closets one day!!! It is also my dream to have all wooden hangers. You know you can get them pretty cheaply at Ikea!

Erin! This is one of my favorite posts of yours! (Aside from all the baby Hudson ones 🙂 ) I have a closet obsession too and adore that you love all the above spaces, as I love them as well!! Thanks for all your postings 🙂

Any of the above–we still live in an apartment–I have a crappy slider closet and my hubby has his stuff in our second room. I had walk in closets before we moved in together but nothing like the ones you chose. If my closet could look like an Ann Taylor Loft store it would be perfect!

I love all of those. I could never choose just one to be my dream. My dream closet would definitely include a chandelier. So glam!

I would seriously LOVE any of the closets you posted above! Hubby and I share a walk in closet (which in all fairness – is a decent size) but still there never seems to be enough room! I am always on the hunt for space-saving products! Has anyone tried those huggable hangers? I am curious about those!

I always loved the Carrie’s closet – and everything in it of course! I think I clean out our closet monthly and throw away those horrible paper hangers we get from the cleaners – I hate those things! I too wish I had wooden hangers for everything – right now it’s just for the special pieces!

Last year I made the switch to all wooden hangers and I love it. The only problem is I keep having to buy more. Does that mean I keep buying more clothes without tossing something I haven’t worn in awhile? You bet! A closet clean out is on the “to do” list.

Oh my gosh, the house in Something’s Gotta Give–to die for!!

We have his ‘n hers closets–finally, our rental home that we lived in for years had the worlds teeniest closets and that was a total nightmare. Now, we’re lucky enough to have our own space, my closet is still a total disaster area. I really just need to clean it out. And buy more hangers. I never seem to have enough hangers!

I would love to have a closet that was even half as glamorous as one of those closets! 🙂 Maybe one day, but then I’d have to have the money to fill it too. I’m planning on winning the lottery!

I think everyone deep down would love for the “wooden hanger” look.

I did take that step to a cheaper level and made all of my clothes hang on black hangers. They are still plastic, still from target, but just having them match has been huge!! My husband’s clothes are on white plastic hangers, and it keeps me from steeling hangers in addition to finally making sense of his mess. We are lucky enough to have a big closet so we aren’t cramped but it’s still so nice to have the walk in space feel organized and pretty (even without wooden hangers).

AND let’s not forget Carrie’s closet from the SATC movie! Now THAT was a closet!! My hope as a musician is that I get to the point where fabulous shoes are a business expense, I’d love a room dedicated to just shoes!!

i crack up every time i see a picture of mariah carey’s closet. that women is pure DIVA.

LOVE the last closet you posted. The white/cream and light blues make it so serene.

Needless to say my closet looks nothing like the ones above! I also wear mostly black so it’s so hard to find things- in my next life I’ll be one of those people who converts a spare bedroom into a closet!

  19. says

    Those are really dreamy!!!

That beautiful puppy in that one picture is a Brittany Spaniel and is the same breed as my puppy. They are such great dogs but you are right about not spending too much time on white carpet!! 🙂 Those little paws collect all sorts of dirt and make everything dirty!!! 🙁

I’m the same way with wooden hangers – I’ve started with Ikea wooden hangers… you can buy a set of 10 (I think), for like $3.00 and they are actually REALLY nice. So for now, our hallway coat closet has been accomplished 🙂 Now to save up and convert all of the other closet hangers, 10 pack by 10 pack 😉
