mom-style monday: the leggings bandwagon

I know leggings aren’t anything new, but they’re new for me. I was pregnant last fall and winter and wasn’t about to shove my big self into a pair of leggings. Now that I’ve had the baby, I’m still not thrilled about shoving my big self into a pair of leggings, but I’m doing it anyway.

That’s right. I’m on the leggings bandwagon. I ordered some J.Crew leggings a few weeks ago and they were on backorder, so while I was waiting for them to arrive, I decided to make a trip to Ann Taylor LOFT and try on their leggings that have gotten rave reviews from this source.

I tried them on and loved them. I also loved LOFT’s lounge section of the store. These items are perfect for a SAHM, wearing leggings, and trying to cover up her backside.

Yesterday, I trotted down to Starbucks wearing the following items and felt pretty good about it! My backside didn’t feel small, but I wasn’t self-conscious either. I’ll see if I can pull them off with boots.

And it’s a little chilly here, today, so I’m wearing this other sweater that I got at Ann Taylor LOFT with the leggings. I just love that place right now!

Are you on the leggings bandwagon? How do you pull it off?

p.s. Here’s a Halloween sneak peek for you! Look at my little Charlie Brown!

I am so glad you did a post about leggings. I really want to try some but don’t even know where to begin. I will definitely try ATL.

  2. says

Ummm I need to go to ATL immediately. I have leggins but need big drapey sweaters to complete the look. And boots… I need black boots that do not cause 9th grade patent leather zip up with a chunky heel flashbacks. Oh wearing hooker boots at 15- the memories! 😉

Your little Charlie could not get any cuter. If he does, I may have to eat his cheeks!

I love the leggings! they just make life easier! you can feel pulled together and comfy at the same time. that is a beautiful thing!

    That Charlie Brown is *adorable*!

I LOVE ATL … and I’m jumping on the leggings bandwagon too. I have a coupon to ATL so I’m going to head over and grab some of theirs. I bought * a LOT * of items this weekend that I was told “Just wear it with leggings” — I’m tall and don’t like my butt hanging out of dresses. SO we’ll see .. going to try.

Could Hudson be any cuter?? I think not.

Leggings are not for me! While I love the look on other people, I just don’t think it’s for me. I totally loved them when I was pregnant. I would pair them with a tunic and flats. I’m sure you looked fabulous! Can’t wait to see more Halloween pictures. Totally adorable.

I love those sweaters and wish I had one to put on right now (it’s been pouring ALL day!) They look so cozy. I’m also loving those shoes but I’ve yet to jump on the legging bandwagon. I still have horrible flashbacks of them from back in the day and can’t quite get past them. Who knows though, I may just have to try some on the next time I’m at Loft…but only because I trust your opinion!

p.s. Love your little Charlie Brown 🙂

I am on the fence about leggings. You and I had babies around the same time, so you know there’s the whole “am I ready for these or not” argument. But this weekend I bought a cute sweater dress that just NEEDS leggings. But I’m gonna go with the heavy, textured ones that will make me think I’m wearing more than I really am.

Maybe I should venture out more though? You and Anne Taylor have inspired me…

Leggings are my everything…so much cheaper than jeans, always comfy, always classy! There are days when I put on jeans and before I leave the house I give in and change back into leggings. American Apparel leggings are my favorite (they are just so soft and amazing) and for people in colder areas they have WINTER LEGGINGS which are thicker and so so so cozy. I recommend them to anyone…..they hold in “wobbly bits” wayyyy better than regular leggings. 🙂 Great post.

LOVE the leggings look–thanks for the LOFT tip, I’m always looking for something that is right length to cover my bum but isn’t a dress. Hud is the perfect Charlie Brown!! xo

I went to the Loft this past weekend also looking for some colder weather clothes for a trip we are making this weekend, and I too fell in love with their Lounge looks now. Their sweaters were all the perfect length and so soft. I am a SAHM too, so I can’t wait to rock these looks this fall!

I love Hudson’s Halloween costume! I just recently started following your blog and I have to tell you I love it. You have a beautiful family and love all the way you write. You should write a book so fun to read. As far as leggings go i’m a mommy to 3 Icelynn is 6 in a month, Memphis is 4 in a month and Vienna is 1 and a half. I wear a lot of leggings with boots and flats. So comfortable and they look good you can dress them up or down!

  12. says

    YAYAYAY for Charlie Brown costumes.

You + Me = Same person.

    so glad we’re besties.

P.S. if I had chicken legs I would totally sport the whole legging thing but sadly i do not.

  13. says

OMG, Charlie Brown! He was my mom’s favorite character of all time and I can’t wait to see his full look!

I’ve been dying to get to ATL to pick up some leggings… now that I know they’re the best I am convinced all of my “old” leggings are no good!

  14. KAY says

Love this post! I have never done the whole leggings thing, but now I’m wanting to give it a try. I will have to stop in ATL and see what they’ve got. I need to find some tops that I could wear with leggings for class or just errands!

  15. says

Loving the outfits!!! I like leggings because I’m so short that most things hit me at an awkward length so leggings sometimes help me to put things together. I don’t do them in the summer but mostly fall and winter! Great finds! Hudson looks so cute! Can’t wait to see his Halloween!

  16. says

I am in love with leggings…so comfortable and are easy to dress with flats or boots! Can’t go wrong…
P.S. I’m really digging the classic Charlie Brown outfit!

  17. says

Not so sure about the leggings for me. I have seen so many “no’s” that it is hard for me to imagine myself as a “yes.” 🙂 More power to you! Hope this helps expand your wardrobe…always a toughie!

  18. says

I am definitely on the wagon! I am 5 months pregnant and am in between pants– maternity pants are too loose, regular pants are waaaaay too tight! I tried the Bella Band, but it’s just not as comfortable. I wear leggings a few times a week with dress type shirts and ballet flats. So comfy and easy!

  19. says

I’m with you…I’m pregnant now, and I don’t want to try the leggings look right now. I’m contemplating it, but I just don’t know that I’m into it. I’ll likely wait until after Baby H is born! Anyways, the little outfit is so cute! Love it!

  20. says

Little Charlie Brown is ADORABLE!! I wear leggings around the house constantly. Ty enjoys them a lot better than my fat girl pants (velour lounge pants). 🙂 I love the new sweaters at ATL. I will be checking them out soon!

  21. says

I want to try leggings so badly but I worry my legs are too “meaty” for them. I might just have to suck it up and try. Hudson makes an adorable Charlie Brown!!! XOXO

  22. says

I wear leggings from time to time. But I can’t commit completly.

I could actually use some new ones so maybe I will check out loft!

  23. says

I love the sweaters and stuff you chose! I feel like ever since I got pregnant my butt has just gotten HUGE and I should just stick a “wide load” sign on it! Maybe eventually I will wear leggings…now whether or not I would venture out in public in them is another story….

  24. says

I feel like I’ve been on the leggings band wagon for too long. They are just so comfortable and in the winter I wear them with boots and a sweater waaaaaaaay too much. Its just so comfortable! About a year and half ago my student workers informed me that leggings were ‘out of style’. I still kept wearing them. Ha! Now they told me they are back in style. Good to know! 🙂

  25. says

I am not on the bandwagon… yet=) I have always felt like they look good on everyone else but me! but they look soo comfy which is a must right now. I admit I have not left my yoga pants for a few days now, and before that it was Hubby’s sweatpants! Can’t go out in those! I used to shop at ATL all the time and then didn’t find much and then was preggy, and still feel huge, and sad when I try clothes on and they don’t fit how (how they did) I want them to, I need to go soon=)! (I promise I do leave the house, ha. We’re all (but Hubby) passing something around (and been so tired), so we’ve been a bit housebound for a few days=)) Little “Charlie” is adorable=) and those outfits would look so cute with boots!

  26. says

    I’m with you, sort of.

I’m not completely on the bandwagon though.

I’ve tried them on, only one time and I wasn’t that excited about it. I have my dad’s side of the family female’s thighs and it’s just not pretty in tight things like that…

I am willing to give it another try though. Love the way you’ve found them to wear at ATL!!! Don’t you just love that store! I always find something in there that I HAVE to have! That v-neck sweater in ground is just AWESOME! I can’t wait to go a try their leggings on to see if I like them better!

I’ll let you know how it goes…

I wish I had known about the leggings at ATL! I ordered some from Jockey, which are really great too. They are long (I am 5’8″ tall like you), so they are great, but ATL would have been so much easier! I wear mine with dresses or long sweaters and boots. I have a dream dress from J. Crew from last year that they look great with. My bestie showed up with a pair of these boots for me last week and I love them: http://www.target.com/Womens-Mossimo-Kady-Boots-Cognac/dp/B002400F5E/ref=br_1_8?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=724490011&node=724490011&searchRank=pmrank&searchPage=1&searchSize=30&id=Womens%20Mossimo%20Kady%20Boots%20Cognac
You can’t beat the price! I love those with leggings.
We were up in NYC two weeks ago and my girlfriend had on a knit dress with leggings and patent Mary Jane’s. Super cute!

  28. says

I love the legging look. The nice, cozy sweaters and cute flats make the whole thing adorable. This SAHM is also on the leggings bandwagon this winter!

  29. says

First of all, how cute is that Charlie Brown halloween costume? I’m so glad you made a post about ATL, I work there, and have been in love with our updated lounge wear this season (so much better than past seasons, for sure). Sad thing, us atl associates do not get a discount on the lounge wear so I’ve yet to buy anything. So glad to hear you’re happy with it, post a picture one day!

Love leggings, too, but not for my prego booty right now! 😉 I saw a cute girl at a wedding over the weekend with the legging/sweater combo. Her sweater didn’t even begin to cover her booty well at all, it really could have been such a cute outfit – had it been the right length. Needless to say, I couldn’t stop looking at her and shaking my head!

LOVE Hudson’s Charlie Brown costume…such a cuuuute idea! 🙂 My Jakey and I watched “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” just last night, he loved it! 🙂
