home tour tuesday: the study

Other than the nursery, this is the only room we have painted. We chose to paint it the Benjamin Moore match to Restoration Hardware’s Silver Sage.

This room used to be our second guest bedroom. It had a queen size four-poster bed in it and it was so great to have a second room where guests could sleep. Then we found out we’d be turning our former study into the nursery. We considered not having a study, but because Todd has to work so often on the weekends and because blogging has become such a big hobby of mine, we knew that we needed a space for all of these activities other than a nook in our bedroom.

So we turned the study into the nursery and the second guest bedroom into the study. Our house has four bedrooms, but we just use one as a study/home office.

The desk was mine in high school and I still love it. I bought the file cabinet to match last year. They’re both from a company called British Traditions and we found them at Market, of course. Can’t beat the wholesale prices.

On my desk, I have the computer, the baby monitor, a return address stamp, two mail sorters, a lamp, and my Junior League binder.

The cafe shelves above the desk are from Ballard Designs and allow us to get some of the junk off of the desk. Desk clutter stresses me out– like any clutter does– so I’m loving these shelves. I wish they’d had an antique white to match the desk and file cabinet, but I like having a few different finishes in theΒ room.

When we installed the shelves, I finally had a place to display all of my wedding coffee table books that Todd loves so much!

The little round table is the Terrific Table from Ballard Designs and I recently purchased the Terrific Table Burlap Fringe table cloth. Ballard is such a great resource for these items because the table cloths fit the tables perfectly and you don’t have to have something custom made.

Because we weren’t too excited about losing our second guest bed, we decided to get a chair and a half. So we have this large, super comfy chair and ottoman. We can wheel the ottoman out of the way and the chair unfolds into a twin bed. The mattress is paper thin, but it does work for an extra place for someone to sleep when we have lots of overnight guests. (Last fall we had 11 people in our house at once — not including Todd and me– so we were so thankful to have that four-poster bed.) The mirror and lamp came from a company called Uttermost– also found at Market in Atlanta.

We picked up the sisal rug from Strobler, a local furniture store.

The two stacked baskets hold all of my wedding binders and resources, but keep them hidden nicely.

The chifferobe has been mine since I was 2 years old and moved into my first “big girl” room. It has moved approximately 9 times (between family moves and my apartment to house moves), so I had it refinished and repaired right before we got married. It is an excellent source of storage and currently holds all of my scrapbooking materials, ribbons, markers, and all of my wedding-related coffee table books. There is also a tiny TV in the small cabinet and it is so cozy to sit in that big chair to watch TV on a rainy day.

So now you’ve seen our study/home office. And now you know where I’m sitting when I write all of these posts! Where do you do your blogging?

Erin the more I see of your house the more adorable it gets! We have a teeny tiny 1929 bungalow with only two bedrooms… sadly that means no study for me. We just finished the basement and are working on getting furniture down there to create an office nook. As for now I do most of my blogging on my imac at work. Shhh, don’t tell anyone!

VERA WANG ON WEDDINGS! My favorite! Mine is in our dinning room (weird, I know) in one cubby of the GINORMOUS built-in bookcase that serves as an entire wall.

Love the office – especially the shelves! Very similar to what I want to do in our living room!

And – boo – I blog on my crappy laptop in the living room. Such an eyesore.

Thanks for sharing! It’s always neat to see a “peek” inside someone else’s home! I love the way you displayed your pictures on the shelf. Very beautiful! :>)

I love the shelves!! I’m going to show this to my hubby as “inspiration” for our office, which is in such a state of disarray it’s embarrassing. Right now we do have some shelves in there, but they’re hung off those metal tracks. Yours are so much nicer.

Could I love your house more? Please come decorate mine–I’ll pay you!! πŸ™‚

I need those shelves from Ballard Designs–hmm… birthday gift for me from the husband perhaps? (isn’t that funny how ‘gifts’ change when you get older? Last year I got crown moulding for my kitchen and it was seriously the best gift! ha!)

As for me, I blog from work (bad!) or from my sofa with my laptop. Our home office is g-h-e-t-t0o because it’s the husband’s space and he doesn’t really care. One day, however, one day, I will make it pretty and nice. I just don’t know when. He has the most awful desk–that must go. Ah, boys.

So sweet and cozy. I love silver sage too. I was just telling MM that we love it so much its the color of our MB, FR and office! I used to do all of my blogging in my office at work – that was when I was 100% organized!!! Now I’m most likely to do a blog post on the couch…or in the nursery while I’m feeding him at 3 a.m!

I blog from my laptop in the basement. That is where our bigscreen is and where we hang out at night. I could make the upstairs an office, and probably will as we finish other rooms, but right now it’s not a priority and I’d probably never come out at night:)

Two things caught my eye……1) the Tiffany blue box (makes me happy) and 2) Martha’s Homekeeping Book. DOn’t you just love that book? I bought it for myself as a housewarming present. It’s such a great resource.

Thanks for opening the doors to your home for us to see. I so adore it!

Which city snow globe do you have? I have a NYC one that I got from Saks. I’ve always wanted to get another one but they stopped selling them.

And that wall color is so relaxing, it goes well with the beautiful black and white photos. I love what you did to that room.

I love the colors that you have in that room, they are so soothing. I wish I had a nice place to blog from but my husband has taken over the den/office and I am blogging from my laptop in my living room. Boo-hoo.

I have be reading the archives from your blog and it’s great!

What a lovely room! I love the color you chose on the walls. Also, the pull out chair is really nice too! I used to have a set of love seat couches that pulled out into twin beds…they weren’t the most comfortable, but they served their purpose!

    hi,
Similar interests, mutual respect and strong attachment with each other are what friends share between each other. These are just the general traits of a friendship.
To experience what is friendship, one must have true friends, who are indeed rare treasure.

I have added you to my blogroll, hope you can do the same thing for me so that we can have constant communication.

Very nice. I’m working on my office at home, so you’ve given me good ideas. I’m restoring a wonderful book case, but I’ve been thinking of shelves above the desk. I currently blog on my laptop at lunch time or in the sunroom area of my kitchen. Or in my office/rabbit room at home (yes, the same office that I’m working on, which is why it is taking awhile to try to accomodate the bunny’s needs as well!)

Love those shelves! Just beautifully decorated! Love it!

I do most of my blogging from either my desk {at work} on my lunch break or at home on our laptop table {from the living room}. Much more boring than what you’ve got on but still doing it! That’s all that matters, right?

I was so disappointed recently by Crate and Barrel…I found pieces online and in a catalog that I really liked, but then when I went to the store to buy them, the wood looked so cheap! I am always wary of ordering things from Ballard Designs for the same reason. The shelves look really good in the picture, but how do they feel in person? You think that a bigger piece would look as nice (I’m looking a dining table)?
