what's getting me through the heat?

It’s oppressively hot. I’m not a fan of summertime anyway. I like the spirit that comes with summertime, but I don’t like the heat, and I generally don’t love summer clothes. I like jewel tones and layers and that just screams fall to me.

Fall in Central Park. Yum!

No, I don’t have plans to be in Central Park this fall, but I will play in the leaves and we’ll at least do a drive through North Carolina to see some nice leaves changing color and all that fun stuff.

I’ve vowed not to purchase fall clothes in August like I always do. Maybe I’ll wait until mid-September. Even though there’s no chance that it will get below 75 degrees until late October. Hopefully I can trick-or-treat with my baby boy and wear a sweater while I’m doing it!

Please take some time on this Friday afternoon to drool over these two gorgeous and obviously flattering pieces with me from none other than Anthropologie.

I live up north, so I generally look forward to summer time. Fall just reminds me that a good solid four months of snow will be here before I know it. I try to wear my summer dresses and sandals right on through till mid September. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fall, and I love winter up until mid January – it’s the prettiest right up until Christmas. After that, I just can’t wait to have some sun and be able to go outside without freezing. I suppose mid-winter vacations to sunny destinations are what saves me from hating the winter months entirely.

I’m not a fan of the heat either, but I also hate the bitter cold winters we have here in the Northeast and I’m totally over snow by Christmas! I do love fall though and I really want both the tops you posted!

I am DYING over that first ruffled jacket… Can’t wait for cooler weather!! (BTW, picturing little Hudson dressed up in Halloween costume is making my afternoon. I’ll have a newborn by then, too – crazy! Maybe he’ll dress up as a baby who sleeps through the night – that’d be fab!)

I am totally drooling over them too! Oh I can’t wait for fall, I hate the heat. Being in Louisiana is a bad place to be for someone who hates heat, I can’t wait for December when it finally feels like fall here.

It’s so refreshing to hear someone else NOT be a fan of the heat…all my friends live for it!! I’m totally a Fall girl…love it! The crisp air, the rich colors…everything about it screams cozy and comfy!!

So enjoy your blog….especially with pics of your adorable baby…he is beyond precious!! And, Fall is on the way…soon.

Love the navy jacket!! I’m with you not a big fan of summer clothing. I just love driving through the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains in the fall. Hope you have a great weekend. = )

I love both those sweaters! I think Carolina weather would be perfect for me! If the leaves change, that must mean you certainly have the change of seasons, just much more mild winters than Michigan. The too hot weather can be rough, but nothing, and I mean nothing is worse than sitting in rush hour during a snow storm and being 2 hours late to work! Its the worst!

I totally agree with how you feel about summer…love the spirit but hate the oppressive heat + humidity that comes with it. The same is true for fall. I love the idea of cooler temps, layered outfits, and a crisp feel to the air but given I live in Louisiana that doesn’t really come into play until December and by then everyone is focused on winter. I miss the fall weather of NC and am a bit jealous you’ll get to experience the color that makes it so special. Lee + I were married in the fall almost 6 years ago and love that we were surrounded by those gorgeous hues.

Since we don’t have cool weather to enjoy here Lee + I have decided to visit NYC (yay Central Park!) for a proper anniversary celebration (please don’t hate me!!) Our flight + hotel have been booked and we even have tickets to see John Stamos light up the stage on Broadway in Bye Bye Birdie. I’m so freaking excited!! The problem is, I have nothing to wear 🙁 I may need to enlist you to find me some great options that will have me stylishly enjoying our strolls through Central Park, yummy meals out, and exploration galore. What do you think, can you help me????

Those jackets are adorable! I love all the pretty things I can buy to cover myself up in the winter time!

And I’m with you, this summer heat has got to go. It’s been so horribly humid for the past two weeks!

I couldn’t agree more with you. You articulated my feelings very well! I love the idea of summer, but my goodness, a person from the south cannot enjoy summer. They just can’t. Fall and winter are my favorites. I love Halloween and all the harvest events. I love Christmastime. I love wearing sweaters, and beautiful boots. You picked some great outfits to show!

ok that first jacket is KILLING ME. Like I am going to the mall after work to buy it (unless it is online/catalog only?). We’re getting puppy pics done in late October so this would be perfect for a fall photo shoot!

    GAH.

Can’t wait to see you soon!

I love the heat (as long as I have a pool, lake or ocean to wallow in). However, I am getting excited about jackets and cowl necks. Cozy!!! I love both of those. Do ya’ll have an Anthro, or do you have to do online?

I grew up adoring summer, given that the temperatures in my hometown were pretty much perfect then. Now that I live in Texas, of course I live for fall.

I never met a fall coat I didn’t like, but I particularly like that top one. I’m such a fan of the ruffles trend going on right now.

  16. says

Oh. my. gosh. those are FABULOUS. I might have to have them after ALM arrives! Precious and I am with you on loving fall clothes better than summer!!

  17. says

I love Anthropologie and these items are fantastic! I am with you – I really don’t like the summer – fall is the absolute best time of year. Growing up in Florida I never got to experience fall weather in the fall but now I get more of a taste in Alabama.

  18. says

GAH! That first one is to die for!! We, of course, don’t have an Anthro around here, but that one might be in my online shopping cart in no time!!

By the way, the Tiffany rattle suggestion was awesome. My friend loved it! Thanks again hon =)

I love love LOVE that first jacket!!!
This is why I’ve been avoiding looking at fall clothes!! We’re trying to save a little money, plus it’s hot here too. Wouldn’t be able to wear them until October!
