maxi dress: the new mom jean

I’ve talked a little bit about the difficulty of losing the weight that has caused my hips to go up about three sizes. I haven’t started exercising yet, but will as soon as my doctor says “G-O.”

Just because my hips are significantly wider than my waist doesn’t mean that I’ve morphed into mom style and need to wear mom jeans.

Even though I’m just hanging out at home with my baby every day, I would like to try to maintain my “Erin” sense of style as much as I can. Thank goodness for the maxi dress, right moms? It accentuates the best assets of a new mom and camouflages the worst. Plus they’re super comfortable! Your body is still exhausted from 24 hours of labor and tight jeans or uncomfortable shorts aren’t the easiest things to wear around the house.

The maxi dress is as comfortable as a moo moo, but looks much cuter. Your husband will also appreciate seeing you in a maxi dress over a moo moo when he comes home from work! And they’re not all as dressy as the options above. All of my maxi dresses are knit and it’s easy to wash spit up out of them. So God bless the maxi dress as it’s saving new moms every day.

I haven’t even had a baby, and I wear maxi dresses to hide my hips! I love summer knit dresses! If only I could find something this cute AND comfy for winter!

That Mom Jeans skit is one of my favorites!!! I love the look of the maxi dresses on everyone but I can’t bring myself to wear one. I don’t like my arms enough. LOL!! XOXO

I love Maxi dresses and I haven’t even had a baby. They’re so comfortable. I get tired of wearing tight fitted pants every day. Maxi dresses are comfortable but without looking frumpy. They’re just so cute!

I love how no-nonsense you are! My favorite line was “Your husband will also appreciate seeing you in a maxi dress over a moo moo when he comes home from work!” haha

I’m pregnant and loving the maxi dress too – so glad you’re able to feel cute without resorting to uncomfy clothes! (Can we brainstorm what I’ll be wearing this fall and winter when I’m a new mom and it’s too chilly for maxi dresses? Eek!)

I am not a mom yet but I LOVE maxi dresses. They are the best things ever. Especially on days like today (I am wearing one at work) when I am feeling a little bloated!

Also not a mom, but love love my Maxi Dress – I only have one so far, but I absolutely love it and would wear it all the time if I could! (thank you Forever21 for inexpensive but trendy clothes!!)

I love the maxi dresses! I think they are very cute & comfy all while being trendy, BUT I feel like I can’t wear them. I am only 5’1″. What is your opinion on petite women wearing them?

  9. says

Those are really cute on ladies, I didn’t even know they had an official name. I have not yet even tried any one, due to my warped sense of proportion, as in needing my legs to show for balance even though I KNOW long dresses are gorgeous on others! I am sure you look gorgeous in them.

    Love the maxi dress!!!

On a silly side note, I went to theater school with one of those hysterical SNL ladies, Rachel Dratch. She was a good friend-FUNNY!!!

Yes- the Maxidress is the best fashion invention by far! I’m just sad that when Ryder was born (in November) it was too cold to wear one. I too have both dressy (with cleavage) and the knit versions of the maxidress (with less cleavage) depending on what occasion I wear them for. Anyways, I am so glad that you had a good time at the beach and got to catch up on your movies and good books!

I’m not even a mom and I love wearing maxi dresses. Jeans, shorts, and capris are just too hot for swfl and maxi dresses are so much lighter. Plus, it is easier to transition from day to night. I don’t feel goofy wearing it to the grocery store and then to nice restaurant.

I love the maxi dress and I’m not pregnant! It is such an easy thing to just throw on. I bet your husband loves that you are making an effort for him (and yourself). I’m guilty of throwing on sweats as soon as I get home and I thought the other day that maybe it wasn’t the most flattering thing ever. haha!

I don’t have one yet but have wanted a long dress for some time now. Plus, those mom jeans are frightening! Never ever go there, Erin. NEVER.

Do you have any good links to some cute maxis? I need some more in my collection. Also, besides our fab Jcrew matching suits, did you get any other bathing suits? I’m headed back to the beach with my college friends next week and I feel like I need one more option.

I have bought SEVERAL maxi dresses this year — from all over. It has been a staple since the spring. I have actually found quite a few cute ones at TJMaxx and Marshalls, of all places!

He said he meant it n a good way!! How is the wedding girl book?it looksgood! I love the beach pictures of huddy and u!! Looks like such a fabolous time!! His swim suit is darling and so it yours!! Good on you for staying a stylish mama and just saying no to the Mom Jean. Not that I’m surprised – you are the girl who sported maternity Citizens (or was it Sevens?), after all!

Just saw some surprisingly cute maxi dresses at Target, and on the higher end, Anthropologie has some good ones in too. They do nothing for my current figure, but if they’re still in style when I’m a mom, I will remember this as a wardrobe must.

My cousin just had a baby and she is in LOVE with maxi dresses right now. They are fantastic for hiding anything and still looking stylish. Hey, I even wear them when I’m not feeling totally there. 🙂

Erin, I’m 100% with you!! I’m positively living in my Target & Old Navy maxi dresses, post-baby. They are the best!

Those jeans remind me on my momma in the 80’s {LOL–yikes} I love the dresses, think they make you feel so feminine and are so comfortable! Hope you have a great weekend! = )

I haven’t even had a child yet and I can’t stop singing praises about the maxi dress. I mean, is there seriously a better invention?! And kudos to you for staying a stylish mama! Can’t say I’m surprised =)

Ok so I’m totally new to your blog, but was just browsing maxi dresses and I need some advice. Is it appropriate to wear a maxi dress to a wedding? It’s a evening wedding, my husband will wear a suit, but it’s not like black tie or anything like that. Opinions?? Thanks! 🙂
