Every night, around 11:00, Hudson and I go into his room to begin his bedtime routine. I turn off all the lights and close all the curtains. I change his diaper and give him his bottle. I burp him and then I swaddle him. After I swaddle him I give him his pacifier and rock him for about five minutes. Then I put him in his crib. And the whole time I’m doing this, Fiona sits in the corner in Hudson’s chair.
In the middle of the night when he starts to cry, Fiona is already up, waiting for me to get up and go to Hudson’s Β room to feed him and change him. While I’m changing him she stands there at the changing table with me as if to monitor what’s going on. When I head for the rocking chair to feed Hudson and rock him, Fiona heads for Hudson’s chair. Or I guess it’s her chair now.

Sidenote: Last night, Fiona left her chair and came over to sit on the floor next to the rocking chair. A few minutes later, she moved to the other side of the chair. She’s never this indecisive about where she wants to be, so I assumed she needed to tinkle. The lights were out in Hudson’s room and we were trying to be very quiet to get him down. Todd came in to take Fiona outside and I put Hudson in his crib. When I got up to leave the nursery I started glancing around the floor to make sure Fiona hadn’t messed up anymore. Sure enough, she had thrown up right next to the ottoman– on the gorgeous polka dot rug. We couldn’t turn on the lights for fear of waking Hudson, so Todd and I got a flashlight and he held the flashlight while I scrubbed the floor. As if we didn’t have enough to deal with already in that moment… thanks Fiona!
This is too cute. Our pups already love going in the nursery, but I think it might be just to sniff the basket of stuffed animals. π We will see how they do once baby arrives.
She is an adorable lil helper if I’ve ever seen one. Sorry to hear about the rug. I hope our 2 boys are good when we decide to add a baby to the mix.
She is so cute and adorable too!!
PS: I love your blog!! It is so cute. You have an adorable little boy too!! Congrats for your recent maternity!!
That’s such a cute photo of Fiona in Hudson’s chair. Messes are bound to happen with pets, it’s a good thing that you found it earlier than later!
Awww, how sweet. I hope my doggie does this someday!
(minus the throwing up part)
Aww it sounds like she is being protective of Hudson! That’s cute (minus the little vomit situation). π
My cat sassy and our dog Smokey always liked to “help” my mother take care of Emma when she was a baby. Sassy was the nurturing type and always made sure my mother took care of her babies…we think Sassy though they were her babies.
Oh no! Not on the polka dots! Ha!
What a sweet little helper you have! She is the cutest π
That chair is adorable!
Gotta love dogs! I’m glad she keeps you company while you’re taking care of your baby…how sweet!
Aww – too cute! My little guy has a chair like that in his room too – we use it so much! Sorry Finoa got sick on the adorable rug! Were you able to get it out???
Fiona is so cute in that chair! Our little dog throws up a lot; it is SO annoying to clean up. I can’t imagine having to clean it up after taking care of a baby. I guess I will have to one day…
I think Fiona and Hudson are going to be the best of buds. It’s cute how she’s already looking out for him. Ugh….sorry about your rug. I hope you were able to get it out.
I got my daughter one of those chairs and it has been worth every penny. She loves it. Even if Hudson doesn’t care for it, at least Fiona is getting some use out of it:)
Awwww…minus the little “present” she left you, this is the best story I’ve heard today!
aww that is too cute…well except for the vomit! My puppy threw up all over me in the car the other day…so gross.
Oh girl. I’ve been there!
Well, I was going to say that she’s too cute and I love that she’s “helping” you. Although, with that side note in there… that’s not very helpful! I’m glad you didn’t step in it or anything… yuck!
What a cutie in that chair! Maybe she’s just so nervous about being a good helper?
Dear Fiona-
I hear you have been having some tummy troubles. Is it because you miss me terribly? I hope to change that soon. I plan on coming to visit again. In the mean time, when your tummy starts acting up because you miss me so so so much, just have your mom show you my picture. it is sure to brighten your day.
The other option is that you can come live with me because I love your ugly face.
Love,
Your aunt MM
I love that chair! I wanted to add the pink one to our baby box but it sold out too fast.
aww what a sweet pup! sorry her tummy is acting up…especially on the rug π that is no fun!
What a sweet little helper! Poor baby Fiona… I hope she isn’t sick! Y’all have a sweet little routine I see! Just precious! Love it!
That is so sweet that Fiona likes to be your little helper!
Our dog Fancy (who has had puppies) watched me very closely when our son came home from the hospital… it was like she thought I didn’t know what I was doing!
As for cleaning the rug- the lenghts we will go to in order to keep a sleeping baby asleep! =)
Already in love with that chair.. Where did u buy it???
Sweet Fiona π Bless her! She looks precious in that awesome chair π I hope Dansby and Daizy handle Addison that well π
What a cute little helper! I hope our dogs are as sweet when we have a little one. But I’m sorry to hear about the mess… π I’m sure she’s sorry too.
By the way – congrats on the new job!! It sounds like you’re extremely happy about it, and you know – you can always go back to work in a few years if you want to. Congratulations!
Awe, poor baby. Her tummy was hurting her. She is so cute! Glad you didn’t wake Hudson up though!
such a cute little helper!! sounds like she’s aleady protective over baby Hudson!
Oh I love this post!! How cute is Lil fiona in judsons chair! So adorable! We just got one of those chairs at a shower over the weekend ! I wonder if hal will like it?? So presh! I’m imagining u and tc cleaning in the dark by flashlight! Made me kind of chuckle!! Love ya
Aww, better for a dog to be protective of a baby than jealous! That’s sweet.
So cute! I love the chair and the dog. Congratulations!
Shes so cute, until she threw up. π ha ha
Haha….that is so funny. My girlfriend has the same chair for her son and daughter and her dogs LOVE the chair more than the kids!! I think Santa should bring Fiona one! π
poor baby fiona. i’m sure she is just stressed with the changes….henry barfs ALL of the time when he’s overstressed. Such rough lives they lead!
And yes, we can be friends IRL and go to Coldplay concerts. Duh!
what a cute picture! i hope your rug’s okay…
how sweet! i feel like pete will be that way. anytime i wake up in the night and get up for anything he always wanders in and follows me. such fabulous little middle of the night friends!
That is so cute, except for the throwing up part….;-)
How precious!! I sure hope my dogs act like this when we have children. I have nightmares of them being all jealous and biting their heads off. And that’s a tame dream….
Yuck, I’m sorry that happened!
