home tour tuesday: the guest bedroom

Welcome to the second edition of Home Tour Tuesday. And welcome to our guest bedroom. This is where I’ve been sleeping for the past six weeks. Our master bedroom is on the second floor andhappens to be the only room on the second floor, and because I can’t climb the stairs for a few more weeks, I’m staying in the guest room. It’s extra nice because it makes the middle of the night walk to Hudson’s room a lot shorter!

I love this room because it’s so white and clean.

I had a twin bed all through college and my parents bought this bed for me when I was in graduate school. I love the white upholstered headboard and the matching duvet cover. The duvet cover and the euro shams have this light sea grass piping. The euro shams have a touch of green in them, but that’s the only color on the bed. I chose green silk curtains to add just a touch of color and to help keep the light out in the mornings.

The chest of drawers was also mine in college and grad school. It wasn’t purchased from a children’s store, but I recently saw it the other day on Posh Tots.

yes, I have silk flowers in there and I loathe silk flowers.

My summer reading list is stacked on top in addition to some of my favorite magazines and some wedding photos. I think it’s really important to keep a good variety of magazines in your guest bedroom so your guests have some night time reading material. It’s also important to have lamps on both sides of the bed so they can read in bed and control their lighting from a comfortable position. That’s my Chicago snow globe from Saks that my brother gave me when I was in high school. I also have one of NYC, but Chicago is my favorite city, so I love that I see it every night before bed when I sleep in the guest room.

The desk near the window (that we use as a bedside table) is weathered and unfinished. It was my brother’s and I just loved it, so it was his wedding gift to us. He’s so sweet.

The chair in the corner was my parents’ and it has been recovered a few times. I’m thinking of recovering it again when I find some spare dollars lying around the house.

And that’s Fiona, my shadow.

My absolute favorite part about this room is the giant rose print on the wall. It’s so romantic and soothing. This room has a little bit of personality, but it’s neutral enough for guests and sometimes feels like a hotel to me.

I love the rose print on the wall and the white bedding! We’re looking into new bedding and I’m afraid we won’t be able to do white (our cat likes the guest bed and her fur is dark. White might be too difficult to clean.) So pretty, though!!

Beautiful! I love it! As a guest, I would feel wondefully welcome staying in this room. You’ve gone above and beyond just decor, and into inviting and warm and welcoming. You can re-decorate my rooms! ;o)

So beautiful Erin. You really do have wonderful taste! Is that a water view from your guest bedroom window or am I seeing things?? If that is water I am even more jealous!! Could you write a post about how you guys found your dream house? How long it took, what you love about it, etc?!

I love the luggage stand you have in that room – is it an antique? I have been looking for one of those for our guest room/office – doing the home tour is a great idea – I might just do this with my Condo one day when it’s not a total wreck! 🙂

Great room and I love all the thoughtful touches (magazines, lighting, luggage rack, etc.) You are quite the hostess!

You said there is just one room upstairs, but is there a bathroom up there? I had a bungalow and was all set with the nursery downstairs and my bedroom upstairs, but once the baby was born I just couldn’t bear to be on a seperate floor, so we moved downstairs. Then I had a 2nd boy, so we just put the two boys in the larger room upstairs so they could share. Also, I found I really wanted to be on the same floor as the bathroom, esp during that 2nd pregnancy.

I love it Erin! You have such great taste and I love that desk and the curve of it. 🙂 I like the white, I’m a white bedspread girl myself lately.

Ahhhh, its so peaceful in there! I’d love to visit you.

Chicago is my favorite city, also. My parents live in the suburbs of Chicago and I just think it’s the best place to visit. It’s absolutely gorgeous at Christmas.

GORGEOUS!!! I love the feel of it and totally dig that it is reminiscent of a hotel (you know how much we like to travel!) Hopefully one day I’ll get to experience it firsthand 🙂

Can I just fly you out to my house to decorate for me? I’m nice, and I’ll pay you – probably in wine, but it will be good wine.

Seriously, you’re talented. This looks like a “Southern Accents” spread, and I mean that in the best way. Elegant, but inviting.

That’s kind of cool that your master is the only room upstairs! I love that idea! Usually it’s the other way around…

Your guest room IS beautiful and so inviting! Great work!

Your guest room is Beautiful with a capital B! Love it. Can’t wait to see what your master looks like if your guest room is this awesome. I’m shamed, friend, totally shamed!

Beautiful, thanks for sharing. I love white. Would have all white linens (almost do), couch, etc if it weren’t for the two black dogs 🙂

Love this room! You are just so classy I love that! I want to be more that way! I love that thing on the bed that you put the magazines on. I’m sure it has a name but I have no idea what it is (see, not classy at all). I can’t wait to have a guest room to decorate!

Love your room, and that painted dresser!
You’re giving me more inspiration to just buckle down and do our guest room! It’s kind of a no-man’s land right now. It’s where we’ve stuck things that have no home. And it’s frustrating because I’d like it to be nice. But then on the other hand, this will probably be the nursery when we have children – so I don’t want to spend too much!

I’m glad to hear you guys had a good weekend! And the picture of Hudson before church is super cute! Love the expression on his face!

Gorgeous bedroom! 🙂 Love your classic taste and the simplicity of it all! 🙂 Oh, how I wish my guest bedroom looked like that. *sigh* Ours will soon transform into a nursery, therefore, I will have to turn our office into an office/guest room.

What a beautiful guest room! Ours is so cluttered and full of junk, I wish it was as peaceful and relaxing as yours. I may have to hire you as our new interior designer. 😉
