he'll always be your Daddy

I’ve been crying all morning ever since I heard Barbara and Jenna Bush’s recorded version of their letter to Sasha and Malia Obama on the Today Show. Who else saw this? It was the sweetest, most appropriate letter with some really fun pictures and it keeps me choked up.

I love that they told them to slide down the banister at the White House and to play games on the White House lawn. I especially loved that they cautioned them not to listen to the reports or skits that tear down their father. They told them that he will always be the Daddy that held them, rocked them, read to them, and the Daddy whose world was changed the day they were born. Presidents are all faced with so much criticism and it’s probably much harder on their wives and children than it is on them.

But I think we can all relate in a way to what the Bush twins said about their father. No matter what else your dad becomes in life, he’ll always be your Daddy.

You can read the entire letter here.

So sweet!! I always have had a sweet spot in my heart for the Bush girls. Having 8 years of your family always in the spotlight like that has to be hard on a family!

I just went and read the letter and I was so touched. It is nice to remember that former President Bush is first and foremost a daddy and they are an American family. It is so sweet that the Bush sisters wrote that to the Obama sisters. I am sure they will treasure it forever! Thanks so much for sharing this!

I saw it too and read it earlier this week. I especially liked the point, as you did, that no matter what people say he is still their father.

Bush basically defined our childhood…and as he leaves and makes way for a man who is going to define my child’s….this was really special for me to watch.

How sweet and very genuine! I heard parts of this letter the other day, but didn’t get a chance to hear the whole thing. That was so nice of the Bush girls to do that! Love the pic of you and your dad that you threw in there!!

I heard about this letter yesterday. I only heard excerpts though. It is a wonderful message to the girls. You can just see in his face how crazy President Bush is about his girls – and the same with President Obama.

I thought that letter was SO sweet!

I loved that they told them to attend every special event they could… because those are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that will only make them richer. But, they said, don’t forget to be kids… slide down the banister, play in the lawn, order two desserts.

More importantly, remember that they have a Daddy that loves them. THEY know their Daddy, the world doesn’t.

I love that they told the Obama girls that they were now a part of this “special club.” You know how much little girls love feeling a part of clubs, lol.

It was so thoughtful of them!!
