Scrappy!

My friend, Emily, of From the Land of Cotton tagged me with the Honest Scrap Award. This should be fun. I read all of her answers and feel like we might have been separated at birth because we’re so similar.

The rules of the award:
1) Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design.
2) Show the 7 winners names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with “Honest Scrap.” Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
3) List at least 10 honest things about yourself.

Here are my 10 honest things:

1) Though my husband is an optimist when it comes to Gamecock football, I have kind of given up hope. Maybe it’s because I’m growing a baby and feel like I have more important things to worry about, but I don’t share his optimism right now. I have to bite my tongue any time I see something on TV. Sorry, TC.

2) Other than our house, we are completely debt-free. I can’t even tell you how good that feels. I spent a large part of my time in college racking up credit card debt without completely understanding what I was doing. I am just so proud to have that as a thing of the past.

3) I love to cook, but refuse to make a mediocre meal. I don’t mean how it tastes, but how big the challenge is. If I’m going to take the time to cook I’m going to go all out. No heating up frozen vegetables or canned vegetables. Ingredients must be fresh. I’m 100% sure I’ll get over this after the baby arrives.

4) I’m so excited to be serving as the Day of Coordinator for a wedding for the first time! The wedding is in March and I can’t wait!

5) I have to take off my wedding and engagement ring every time I fall asleep. I think my fingers swell while I sleep and that is the most claustrophobic feeling in the world to have the rings stuck on my finger!

6) I love to sing. I have done a lot of musical theater and have been singing my whole life in choirs, weddings, and church. I also love to pretend like I’m singing. Pantomime. I think my friend, CET-Destinesia and my Dad are the only ones that truly appreciate this hidden talent. Give me some old school Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, or Tina Turner and I’m going to pretend like I’m belting it out. Another favorite is Danke Schoen– Ferris Bueller-style. Maybe my baby will appreciate it, too.

7) I hate replacing the toilet paper roll and paper towel roll. Period. Good thing my husband accepts this about me.

8) I love change. Lots of people don’t, but I do. I feel like things aren’t right if I don’t have a big change take place in my life every couple of years. I’m sure that comes from so much moving around when I was growing up. I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

9) I think my husband and I have decided not to publicly share the name of the baby. This will be pretty difficult, I think, but I just don’t want to hear anyone criticize the name and I want to wait until the baby arrives to make sure that’s what we want to name him or her.

10) TC and I love game shows. LINGO is a favorite as is The Family Feud. I personally love Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (like my friend, USCEmily) and can be found watching both game shows every night after work.

Dearest Mojito Maven gave me the You Are Truly Beautiful Award awhile back. Thank you, MM. So are you!

And Nina gave me this lovely award. Thank you, thank you!

I wish we were debt free (darn grad school)…CONGRATS!!!! And I am the exact same way…if i’m going to make a meal i’m going to go all out which is why I find myself rarely cooking these days 9especially with WW because the things I cook are not always healthy).

  2. The Lavender Lily says

I completely understand about not sharing the baby’s name. Too many people feel very comfortable letting you know if they don’t like it or if it was their sister’s ex-boyfriend’s brother’s name and they really didn’t like that guy…know what I mean? I’m not sure what we’ll decide to do when that time comes for us, but I think I’m leaning toward keeping the name private, too…

Also, my brother once fixed me canned pototoes which I thought were pretty gross (and didn’t even know they existed!) and he said when I had two kids under the gage of two, let him know if I was still too good for canned potatoes…haha!

I love reading your 10 honest things!! Congrats on being debt free. That is such a big accomplishment. And I am so excited for you that you will be a Day of Coordinator! You will have to let us know how it goes!
Also, I am with you on the wedding ring thing, it makes me SO claustrophobic to sleep in them!

  4. Kelly says

Hubby and I LOVE lingo and we did not share my daughter’s name until after she was born either. Too many people wanting to give their opinion! Didn’t want to hear it!

  5. Meg says

I can understand how worried you are about someone being a critic of your baby name but I have a co-worker who’s nephew who’s first name is Buckminster. NO LIE. And she says it with such pride. I think as long as you claim the name, type/say it with pride, it doesn’t matter what people think..But I can understand. Mozart (yes my fiance’s real name) and I have totally unique and odd names in mind for when we have children and I tell people know and look at them like I WISH they’d say something negative.

  6. Marc and Brittany says

I’m jealous of your debt-free life! We’re working on it, though! =.)

I have to take off my rings when I sleep, as well. I kinda freak when they’re stuck on. I don’t see how some ladies never take them off! Love your blog!

  7. ~Mrs. Guru~ says

Congrats on your awards! I must take off my rings as well. Also I agree with the name thing. Mr. and I already have names picked out but we refuse to tell anyone.

  8. Mrs. Potts says

There are times when I’ll wake up in the middle of the night to take off my rings – typically after we’ve eaten meals with too much sodium. My fingers swell up like little sausages!

  9. Piper Jacquelyn says

You know, the toilet paper roll can be sitting right next to me & I don't want to replace it! What is that? Oh well…and I LOVE Jeopardy & Wheel too!

I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and today I have the perfect chance to comment. I’m leaving you an award on my blog too!

Lingo is pretty much my all-time favorite game show, and one of my co-workers was on Family Feud over Thanksgiving and will be back on it in some upcoming episodes! I’m such a game show sucker!

Way to go on being debt free! That’s so wonderful! I think it’s great that you all don’t want to share the name of the baby until he/she is born because you don’t want people being critical. I firmly believe that it’s the Mom and Dad’s decision and everyone should be respectful 🙂 I’m sure my parents will hate any names my husband and I come up with for our future children! Ha.
