doing the best that I can

I’m so sorry I haven’t been commenting as much as usual. Work has been especially busy with Homecoming approaching and pretty much an event every week.

I have completely abandoned my Google reader the past three days and I’m afraid to look at the total number of unread posts today. When I checked yesterday, there were 323 unread posts! If that’s not overwhelming I don’t know what is. As the days have progressed, I’ve just sort of checked the blogs of those that I have more personal relationships with and have treated the Google reader like the hall closet that everything gets thrown into. I can’t open it unless I’m ready to totally tackle it.

The surprising thing is that when I started this blog I was only reading about three blogs and may have had one non-family reader. I’ve really gotten invested in all of you and your stories and I’m always so anxious to see what you have to say!

Maybe I should just clean up my Google reader and eliminate some that I don’t really follow. I mentioned being overwhelmed by the DVR on Sunday and it only has about six shows stored up. Hopefully when work slows down I’ll be back in full force and ready to read what all of you have been up to. And hopefully I’ll have entertaining new stories to share.

Anyone else going through blog overload?

P.S. I’m totally going through blog overload. I constantly have to remind myself that I am writing this blog for me and although I wish I could comment on every reader’s blog, i just can’t and that has to be good enough.

I’m totally with you, I started with just “real life” friends and now have so many “new” friends. I was thinking about you hoping you were doing ok. Don’t feel bad, I think we’re all feeling it 🙂 I hope your work slows down very soon! Have a great night! And I LOVE your 11 favorite things!! I’m going to post soon how to make homemade peanut butter cups! Yum!

I recently subscribed to your blog, and I’m adding new ones every day and it’s getting to the point where it is overload – I need to just mark some as “read” and move on!

  4. SassyEngineer says

I totally understand what you mean – I have been so busy on the weekends at work – I feel behind. I have been reading a lot, but sometimes I just don’t have time to comment!

  5. Lisa says

Heck yes! I check multiple times a day and each time have over 100 (my industry thrives on it)… but sheesh. And from what I can tell, all the personal bloggers REALLY post like crazy girls on Wednesday and Thursday so I’m screwed the next two days 😉

    Good luck!

Hahah…I’m so there! I have 542 right now. At some point I read my favorite bloggers and the ones that I can’t live without and then I hit “mark all as read” on the others. When I go to read their new stuff I usually end up looking back a few posts if I see titles I don’t recognize anyway. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough time in the day to read and comment on every post out there (though sometimes I wish there was!).

Don’t let it stress you. They’ll still be blogging when you get around to reading them! Good luck with everything! I love your blog!

Ahh, totally overloaded! When I wasn’t feeling well I got behind. I feel this overwhelming *need* to catch up sometimes and find myself spending HOURS reading blogs! 😉

It’s terrible, really. I’m unemployed right now, and I can hardly find enough time in my day to catch up with everyone. In fact, I’m pretty sure reading others’ blogs is my biggest hinderance when it comes to writing my own.

I’ve been toying with the idea of purging some blogs in my reader…I think it may be the photography blogs that have to go. (*gasp!* Did I say that out loud?!) I truly do love the eye candy, but I don’t really need anymore ideas for wedding or engagement photos.

  9. Monogrammed Teacher says

Since I went out of town last weekend and school has been crazy busy I am way behind. I made a promise to myself that I would not backtrack and just pick up where I ended up signing back on. Its hard because you do want to read but then again you dont have the time. I totally know your feeling!

Well, I love when I hear from you but I totally feel you on this one. My job has been insane lately (so no free time during the day) and then at night when I get home I’m so tired!!! So if you don’t hear from me for a few days, I’m still faithfully reading!

My problem is that I forget to look at my blogroll for the people I don’t follow in my dashboard. Confusing!!

I feel like it (blogland) rules my life sometimes. I sit down at the computer to do just one thing and before I know it an hour (or two!) has passed. It’s pretty ridiculous and I think you may need to stage an intervention soon.

Hope your week is as smooth as possible and know we’ll be here when you get back. Remember, blogging is supposed to be an outlet, not a stressor (this is much easier said than done).

p.s. When you didn’t comment for a day or so I was more than a little worried about you. Glad that you’re ok!

  13. Glamorous Life of a House Wife says

I’m with you. I feel so bad if I don’t comment on everyone who has ever left me a comment’s blog, but then I woke up and realized that is impossible. Know you’re not alone! 🙂

I totally get overwhelmed with both my DVR and my blogs – and I only follow about 25! I had to remove Heroes off my dvr list this week – I hadn’t watched any of this season and had forgotten what last season was about… 🙁 bye bye excess television

oh my friend, it will be ok! i feel you on work busy-ness! we have a huge event that I am the coordinator of this weekend and I have been crazy busy too! sometimes other things in life take over our blogging time 🙂 It’s ok, no worries. And yeah, I desperately need to clean up my blogs I follow!
I hope Homecoming is great! miss ya 🙂

  16. New Girl on Post says

I know how you feel! When I first started blogging I only had about 10 blogs on my list, now that I have so much more it’s hard to keep up with everyone.

Hope you are having fun with all the Homecoming activities. 🙂

  17. Tara Caire says

i completely feel ya.. i feel so guilty when i forget to comment on someones blog. Hope all your homecoming activities are going great!

  18. Milltini says

Not to worry…that’s the great thing about blogging, right? Its there when you need it and/or have time. I’m having blog overload too…work is CRAZY! Hope things settle down for you soon. In the meantime, we’ll be here when you get back!

I got married in August and finally had to purge some of the wedding blogs from my reader. The centerpieces just don’t excite me like they used to and some of them post 10 times a day. I can’t keep up, and it just makes me feel very overwhelmed. Though I felt bad doing it!!!!!

  20. Ruby Slippers says

Don’t freak out! I had over 400 items when I got home tonight. Yikes. What I’ve started doing is dividing them into “must-reads”, “Medium reads” and “Read if bored”s. Sounds harsh but it’s the only way to do it! After the wedding I know I’m going to have to cut back on the photography blogs, at least.

I get overwhelmed by blogs and by magazines. I tend to carry around the unread ones and they just seem to be stacking up right now.

  22. Kappa Prep says

Uh I often go through blog overload! I really need to clean up my reader too. It is so overwhelming when I have more than 40 posts to read! Skip a day and you are in the gutter!

  23. Kate says

I hate having to catch up on google reader! Now that I can’t read blogs at work, that thing gets really high by the end of the day!

  24. Monogramchick says

I think we all go through it, I won’t even tell you how many unread messages are in my reader (to my defense, I didn’t really know how it worked until a week or two ago) but am slowly sifting through as well.

Hang in there, it is almost Friday!

  25. Courtney says

Oh, I know that feeling of being overwhelmed by google reader! Sometimes at the end of a day when I haven’t checked it until late at night, I think, “really?? 135?? Do I have the energy to get through these?”

  26. M.A. says

I am having the same problem, still trying to catch up from going out of town for 5 days last week!! I have been trying to cut back but I think I’m going to have to do more soon!
