Todd and I talk a lot about the upgrades we’d like to make on our house. Fortunately, we purchased an 80 year old home that was renovated in 2006. We have an older home that comes with all of the older home charm without all of the older home problems, and we didn’t have to do the work! We’ve really enjoyed our house, but we know that we’ll outgrow it someday. We have four bedrooms, but only two bathrooms. This is already proving to be a problem as we have 10 house guests in one weekend this fall.
I’m constantly keeping a notebook to keep myself inspired, similar to keeping my wedding planning notebook years before the engagement. We think we’d like to add a large living area, mud room, a full bath, and an outdoor living area onto the back of the house off the kitchen. We’re a long way off from ever doing this, but it’s never too early to start saving inspiration rooms!
And because we’ll never be able to have a grand entryway like this in our current home, I’m super inspired by these spaces.

And I’m not about to forget my all time favorite inspiration room!

I have most of those same exact photos save in my “house inspiration” file!!! seriously, are we the same person?
You have beautiful taste!
Gorgeous, all of it! I do the same thing – clipping shots of “dream home” features for the day I too move into a bigger, and in my case more traditional, home.
what wonderful inspiration pieces! i love the second bannister and stair photo with the striped rug!
I love dreaming of ways to improve my home… even if they’re not for my current home. 🙂 I love your kitchen!
I always seem to collect foyer and mudroom inspiration shots. This one you posted is great!
Such cute pictures!!
Look at the cute little Westie!
I LOVE those rooms! I’m in the process of redecorating my living room and entryway (which right now is not so grand). You already have a beautiful home by the way. Great taste!
These are amazing, I am loving those staircases!
Love these! You have fabulous taste!
Seriously, so so so beautiful! Best of luck getting those renovations!!
I too have a notebook of wedding and house inspirations!!
They’re all gorgeous but my favorite is of the outside living area. Oh my goodness, how awesome would it be to enjoy a glass of wine outside and unwind from the day? I think it would be pretty perfect!
I understand your frustration with two bathrooms. We also have a four bedroom/two bath house and each time we have more than two guests, it becomes a bit of a challenge. Luckily that doesn’t happen too often but when it does, we begin thinking about our next home which must have at least three bathrooms, not to mention a bigger kitchen and more storage space!
What a great idea to keep a notebook of ideas for your house! We have very similar taste. Donald & I bought our house 6 months ago and it is also an older house – built in '58! Like you, the previous owner of the home renovated shortly before we bought the house.
I love the outdoor, brick area as well as the photo with the westie- that cache pot is lovely!
love, love, love
I daydream about buying our 1st house next year.
thx for the decorating porn.
