Must-Haves for Spring from Pinterest Told Me To!

Hi, Blue-Eyed Bride People!

I’m Sheaffer from over at Pinterest Told Me To.

You might remember a couple of weeks ago when Erin did a guest post for me HERE.

Wasn’t she darling? As Erin showed you, at Pinterest Told Me To I usually take an outfit from Pinterest (you can follow me HERE on Pinterest) and re-create it with things out of my own closet. It’s so much fun!

By using Pinterest as my inspiration, I have found that I am able to stretch the clothes I already have in my own closet and wear them in ways that I never would have thought of on my own.

I have also found that now when I do go shopping (I do LOVE to shop!), I do it so much more thoughtfully.

Before shopping, I look at all of my pins, and I’m able to determine what new key pieces I need to add to my wardrobe. My approach to shopping now is that every season I will add new standard pieces that I love; classic pieces that I will be able to get many miles out of (but that are also on trend).

Sure, during the season I will buy things I just plain like here and there, but I’m hoping to add great basics to my wardrobe at the beginning of each season.

So, with that being said, here are some inspiration pics from Pinterest that have helped me determine what I see as the top 5 things that are going to be my new wardrobe staples!

Essential #1:  A GREAT Denim Shirt

Last year I bought my first denim shirt since 1985 (although to be clear, my mom bought it back then).  When I bought it, I was unsure if I would ever really wear it.  Boy was I wrong.  I wore it constantly.  In fact, I wore it so often, that I bought my 2nd denim shirt a couple of weeks ago.

Both are from J Crew Factory, and both are great for different reasons.

I posted about both of them HERE if you want to read why I love them.

HERE is my first one (in the middle), HERE is my newest one (on the right) which for the record is WAY cuter on than it appears in the pic, and HERE is the one I’m considering getting because I’m apparently now obsessed with denim and surely need a short sleeve option.

Click HERE if you want to see all of my denim shirt posts!

Click HERE if you just want to see my new denim shirt in action.  It flipping rocks.

Quit second guessing yourself and just buy one already!  It really will become a go-to for you in your closet anytime you want to look classic and trendy!
Essential #2:  Colored Denim

In my opinion, the best colored skinny jean out there is found at GAP right now.

It is the 1969 legging skimmer jean. It comes in about 432 different colors, and it fits like a glove.  It also come in polka dots. AND it has a little bit of stretch in it which I find should be a requirement for ALL jeans.

If you haven’t jumped on the colored jean train yet, I’m your conductor.

GET ON BOARD NOW!

I remember when I bought my first pair about a year and half ago.  I thought that my legs were going to be screaming “LOOK AT ME!  I’M GREEN!  LOOK HOW GREEN I AM!”

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Colored jeans don’t scream, they merely whisper. They quietly whisper “look how darling and awesome I am.”

In addition to green, I now have pale pink, turquoise, periwinkle blue, and mustard. Get ya some colored jeans!

Essential #3:  Colored Blazer

I hadn’t worn a blazer in like 10 years, but this year changed that.

I pulled my black blazer out of the back of the closet (because Pinterest told me to), and I wore the HECK out of it.  Click HERE to see my black blazer in action.

So, I figure I need to add a bright colored blazer to my wardrobe for spring.

I just bought THIS one.  It is such a cute fit, and I just love the color. I know I’m going to be wearing it constantly, so it was worth the little bit higher price tag. It also comes in an electric blue and a neutral.

Other options are HERE (on the left, also comes in coral and yellow) and HERE (on the right, also comes in coral and white with contrasting piping).

Blazers are a little pricey, and I know it’s hard to shell out this kind of money for 1 piece of clothing, but just consider how it is such an outfit maker. Totally worth the mula.

Essential #4: A brightly colored bag for spring!

A great bag is a must for spring.

It’s the one thing that you will carry with you every day, and it can make a huge impact on your look. Every year I look forward to replacing my black or brown winter bag with a bright color!

Here are some of my current favorites.

But, if you aren’t a brightly colored bag kind of girl like me, maybe you will like THIS light brown bag.

It’s a great size, a great shape, and a great color (and it’s on sale!!!) It will look great in spring and summer, but it will also transition nicely to fall and winter. PERFECT for mixing black and brown like Pinterest tells us to do all the time!

Or what about THIS fresh and springy striped one?  Yes, I love this one too.

A lot.  I love it a lot.

Essential #5: Great spring shoes

You need some great flats for your spring and summer wardrobe.

Here are some brightly colored and darling flats that are out there right now.

And just because I can’t stop myself, here are some of my other favorite things I’m loving for Spring and Summer! Including stripes, polka dots, brightly colored watches, pretty jewelry, and a great pair of wedges!

Come join me over at Pinterest Told Me To and follow along.  I’m just a wife and mom trying to look cute when I walk out the door,  and I’m using Pinterest to help me do it!  Come join me and do the same!

Erin, thank you SO much for having me over!
When you guest posted for me several weeks ago your readers were soooo sweet to me,
just as you were!
I have so enjoyed getting to know you a bit, and I’m proud to call you a bloggy friend!

when I grow up, I want to be on Broadway

Or probably not. I’ll probably just dream of taking tap dancing lessons when the boys graduate from high school and I’m wondering where my life went.

I’m in New York with my parents right now, and I’m having the best time. My dad is here on business, so my mom and I thought we’d tag along for a little girls weekend.

We’re using nearly all of our time to see show after show after show. Just four shows. I’ll give full updates when I get back home and share all of my iPhone pictures and don’t have to pay $16.95 per day for wi-fi.

Why isn’t wi-fi free everywhere yet? What up with that?

So with all the fun musicals we’ve been seeing, I have visions of myself pirouetting across a stage and tap dancing to a happy beat to cheering audiences. It’s just something I’ve always loved since I was “bit by the bug” when I was 11 years old and performed in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

It’s been a great weekend, but boy am I missing my kiddos in a big way.

Also… social media is the coolest thing and makes the world such a small place. I have been posting about our theater experiences on Instagram, and for each show we’ve seen so far, at least one of my friends on Instagram has been good friends with a leading actor in each show! Seriously, how fun is that?

So that’s what I’m up to. We’re having a great time, and I have fun things to share.

And a fun little announcement coming later today on the blog.

Rodan+Fields Giveaway

I’d like to introduce all of you to a friend of mine.

Actually, I’ve never met Marina in person, but she has been a “blog friend” of mine for nearly five years now. She designed my very first blog design for Blue-Eyed Bride when I first started. Yes, Marina is the designer behind Penny Lane Designs. She has designed all of my blog designs since then, and her talent always blows me away.

This is Marina and her sweet family. She’s a boy mom, too!

And now she is an independent consultant for Rodan + Fields. Rodan + Fields   is a clinical skincare line created by the people who gave us ProActiv.

After talking with Marina, I decided on a skin care regimen that would fit my needs best. Now that I’m 30 I thought it would be best for me to go with the Anti-Aging regimen, but my skin has been a mess lately. With the pregnancy and then the loss, I have had really bad breakouts that I’ve had trouble getting under control.

Marina recommend the Unblemish regimen for me, and I have been so pleased. I took a “before” picture and in a couple of months I will show you the “after” picture.

Please go take a look at the website that Marina set up for Blue-Eyed Bride readers so you can find out a little bit more about Marina and about the fantastic skin care products!

A little bit about Rodan + Fields:

  • R+F is a skincare line created by the doctors who created ProActiv and is geared toward adult skincare concerns including aging skin, sensitive skin, sun damage and adult acne
  • R+F was the #1 selling clinical line at Nordstrom before it was pulled from high end retail and made available exclusively through independent consultants
  • They offer a 60 day money back guarantee on all product

Marina is very generously giving away one full skincare regimen of your choice to one lucky reader! This is over a $100 value!

I’m so excited for some of you to try this out and see why I’m so excited!

the best of the Oscars

I stayed up really late watching the Academy Awards last night. I was super excited to have seen so many of the nominated films, and I love an awards show. Seth McFarlane wasn’t my favorite host of all time, and I thought parts of the show just went on and on and on. I liked most of the musical numbers, but thought even those were excessive.

But these were my favorite moments in fashion and in the show from last night…

Fashion

Naomi Watts was my favorite last night. She was the only one who just absolutely stunned me by wearing something a little bit edgy and just so glamorous. I loved it. And she wore it so well. She looked comfortable and beautiful.

Jennifer Aniston’s choice brought on mixed feelings on Twitter. I admit that when I first saw it I was underwhelmed. But when I saw her walk in it and saw how beautiful the silhouette of the gown was, I just loved it. The shape is gorgeous on her and she looked completely at ease. She looks like herself, and that’s always a bonus!

And the dress reminds me of a red version of my wedding dress.

Jennifer Lawrence looked radiant! I love her hair color back to a lighter shade so you can see her pretty face. And while the dress is a little structured for my personal taste, I think she just looked fantastic in it!

Jennifer Garner seems like the sweetest person ever. I’m fascinated by her married and family life and really appreciate how they seem to have maintained a normal life despite the pressures of Hollywood. She looked absolutely beautiful last night. The color was perfect for her and she looks awesome!

Jessica Chastain has just catapulted herself into a fantastic career. I’m so impressed by her talent and that she always has her mama with her. Her red hair with that dress was just the perfect combination. She looked so sophisticated. I love her!

Ben Affleck

I was rooting for Silver Linings Playbook to win Best Picture because that was my personal favorite from the season, but deep down I wanted Argo to win just so Ben Affleck could win. He just seems like such a normal husband and father, and his acceptance speech last night had me in tears. I was so happy for him!

Jennifer Lawrence

Her acceptance speech for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook was so genuine and sincere. I love it when someone truly speaks off the cuff and is so stinking shocked they don’t know what to say. I also loved that she tripped and fell up the stairs. I mean, I felt badly for her, but that is so something that I would do. She handled it so well, and made me laugh.

Also, my friend Katie shared this earlier, but you should watch her post-win interview. She’s so natural.

Cast of Les Miserables singing “One Day More”

You can watch the full video here. It was so great to see the perform live. Some did better than others- Eddie Redmayne was fantastic and Samantha Barks are my favorites!

I was also excited that Anne Hathaway won for her role as Fantine. She is so talented.

What were your favorite Oscar moments? What did you think of Seth McFarlane as the host? And who were your best dressed picks?
