our Hayes

These pictures from this weekend could just speak for themselves, but I just wanted to write a little bit about my sweet Hayes.

When Hudson was 2.5 years old, Hayes was 6 months old. 2.5 is such a great age, and it has been fun to experience this age without also caring for a baby. Our Hayes is such a delightful little guy. He’s completely silly. He is flexible. In many ways he fits the stereotype of the second born child.

He wakes up smiling. He doesn’t hold grudges. He marches to the beat of his own drum and is generally a happy guy. He is strong-willed and has a bit of a temper, but he gets over things quickly.

Hayes is extremely active and physical. Always jumping. Or running. Or climbing. Or taking a flying leap off the furniture. It’s slightly frightening, but I do love his personality.

He loves to dance and loves to sing. He pretends to conduct his own orchestra.

He’s doing what he can to assert his independence. Resisting having his hand held to cross the street and attempting to do everything all by himself.

My favorite time of day with him is when we read to him at night, without Hudson, and he is fully attentive. The boys are great together, but I love that time with just Hayes where I know he’s listening and know he’s not distracted. He’s so still and so present.

Hayes lives to make Hudson laugh and wants to make Hudson happy so badly. And if we ever need an interpreter to help us know what Hayes is saying (his speech has improved by 120%– it’s incredible, but there are still times when he’s talking a mile a minute and we have no idea what he’s saying) we always go to Hudson. And Hudson always knows what Hayes is saying. That may be my favorite thing about their sweet relationship.

He’s incredibly sweet and gives the best hugs. The kind of hug where he wraps his arms around your neck and fully rests his head on my shoulder. I’m in complete denial that his 3rd birthday is only a few months away, and I have big plans to keep him a toddler forever. He’s our bull in a china shop and our sweet, gentle boy all rolled into one.

He makes me so very happy.

Do-Re-Mi Plates

A few months ago, the boys received these adorable personalized melamine Do Re Mi plates from A Drop of Golden Sun Etsy shop. The boys want to eat off of them every night for supper, and I want to order one as a gift for everyone that I know! Aren’t they adorable?

Disney Countdown

We leave for Disney World in seven days! We are so excited and the boys are getting excited, too. We’re staying at Wilderness Lodge and everything is booked and reserved. We’ll be gone for seven days. What is your best advice for traveling to Disney World with young kids?

The Good Wife

I’ve become obsessed with The Good Wife. My mom has been telling me to watch it for years and I always had other things I wanted to start on DVD. But with this lull in television (Homeland and Scandal are on hiatus, but Downton Abbey is back!), I started The Good Wife. And I’m addicted already. I love it!

Supper Time!

I’ve really loved cooking in the new house. This week I made Barefoot Contessa’s Linguine with Shrimp Scampi, Giada’s Chicken Soup with Spaghetti, Six Sisters’ Stuff Pork Carnitas. I highly recommend them all!

Valentine’s Day Sweetness

I am obsessed with this letterpress card from Sugar Paper. And it makes me want to watch one of my favorite episodes from Friends.

The Future of Your Home: Part 2

Last week I talked about the incredible appliances that Whirlpool would be showcasing at the Consumer Electronics Show. The product I was most excited about the CoolVox refrigerator that plays music and makes it much easier to have dance parties in the kitchen.
But along with music in the kitchen, the CoolVox will also play instructional podcasts while you’re in the kitchen preparing a meal. I think this would make for really fun dinner parties with friends. Or might even make it easier for kids to help out with the meal in the kitchen on weeknights.
The Whirlpool Designer Duets are also worth taking a look at. I used to think it would be a stretch to say that laundry can now be fancy, but these Designer Duets make it possible. I love that the front loading washer and dryer can be personalized and fancified with these fun patterns.
I’m crazy about the red and white polka dot! A bright, shiny, fancy washer and dryer that reflects my personality would absolutely make it more fun to get the laundry finished each day.

When many of you left your comments last week, you talked about wanting to be able to communicate with your appliances and be able to program them when you’re away from home. You have to take a look at the next generation of Whirlpool Connected Appliances. Can you imagine if your refrigerator knew what was inside and it was all connected through wi-fi? Wouldn’t that make grocery shopping so much easier?
And if you could program your oven from your smart phone when you were heading home?

There is a new suite of appliances from Whirlpool that are digitally connected to make life easier for you. It seems almost too good to be true that we’ve reached the “future” where these things are possible! Your kitchen and appliances learn to understand your family’s needs. Wow!
With the creation of these appliances that make running a home seamless and easier than ever, Whirlpool has made the possibilities endless.

Since Whirlpool 20/20 is all about a future focused on you, we, want to hear your ideas for it. Leave a comment below telling us your idea for the future for your home and be entered to win a $1,000 grand prize.
