Welcome back to Home Tour Tuesday!

I completely neglected this idea for the past few weeks. I didn’t forget, but it just got harder and harder to find a room to photograph that hadn’t been completely overrun with baby gear or dog toys. I’m a neat person, but I could spend all day picking up dog toys and baby stuff. But if anyone is at all interested anymore, here’s another room in our home for your viewing pleasure.

So here are our two living spaces. You can see the black front door on the right in the picture below. Our home was built in the 1930s and was lived in by the same family until 2007. At that time, someone bought it and completely updated the house, but kept a lot of the original fixtures and hardware. You can see that our living space is wide, but not very deep, so we decided to split it up into two areas that basically serve as two rooms.

This space is one that we rarely use. Hudson’s swing stays in this area and this is also where we put his little activity gym. I will sit over here and read every once in a while, but this has kind of become the unused space in the house. We’re definitely in need of a pretty round, tufted ottoman in here.

The big round table has been in my family for a long time and we my breakfast table before we got married. I love it in that corner now. At Christmas time, we move the table and put the tree in that corner. It was a great spot for it last year. Does anyone notice the never-ending amount of law books on the top shelf there? Don’t you think those belong in, say, a law office?

The most beautiful accessory in the room: Hudson’s SweetPeace swing.

These chairs (there are 2 of them) belonged to my great grandmother and then to my grandmother. I picked out fabric at Calico Corners and had a local guy recover them for $200 total a few months ago. I love the way they turned out and I love the animal print on the back.

This is the view from just inside the front door. And now that blank wall space on the left is really driving me crazy!

This is the area where we spend all of our time. That sofa is so comfortable and I think I spent most of my pregnancy right there. The chair rocks and that’s where I’ve spent most of my time now that Hudson has arrived.

And at the bottom of the photo you can see my beautiful first born, Boudreaux, who has been completely left out of this blog lately. He’s such a sweetie.

The poor girl in the orthodontist commercial probably didn’t want to have her face on my blog.

So thanks for coming back for another edition of Home Tour Tuesday. Not sure what we’ll be seeing next week– probably whatever is clean. It’ll either be the master bedroom or the kitchen/dining area. Happy Tuesday, y’all!

Welcome to the second edition of Home Tour Tuesday. And welcome to our guest bedroom. This is where I’ve been sleeping for the past six weeks. Our master bedroom is on the second floor andhappens to be the only room on the second floor, and because I can’t climb the stairs for a few more weeks, I’m staying in the guest room. It’s extra nice because it makes the middle of the night walk to Hudson’s room a lot shorter!

I love this room because it’s so white and clean.

 

 

I had a twin bed all through college and my parents bought this bed for me when I was in graduate school. I love the white upholstered headboard and the matching duvet cover. The duvet cover and the euro shams have this light sea grass piping. The euro shams have a touch of green in them, but that’s the only color on the bed. I chose green silk curtains to add just a touch of color and to help keep the light out in the mornings.

The chest of drawers was also mine in college and grad school. It wasn’t purchased from a children’s store, but I recently saw it the other day on Posh Tots.

 

yes, I have silk flowers in there and I loathe silk flowers.

My summer reading list is stacked on top in addition to some of my favorite magazines and some wedding photos. I think it’s really important to keep a good variety of magazines in your guest bedroom so your guests have some night time reading material. It’s also important to have lamps on both sides of the bed so they can read in bed and control their lighting from a comfortable position. That’s my Chicago snow globe from Saks that my brother gave me when I was in high school. I also have one of NYC, but Chicago is my favorite city, so I love that I see it every night before bed when I sleep in the guest room.

The desk near the window (that we use as a bedside table) is weathered and unfinished. It was my brother’s and I just loved it, so it was his wedding gift to us. He’s so sweet.

The chair in the corner was my parents’ and it has been recovered a few times. I’m thinking of recovering it again when I find some spare dollars lying around the house.

My absolute favorite part about this room is the giant rose print on the wall. It’s so romantic and soothing. This room has a little bit of personality, but it’s neutral enough for guests and sometimes feels like a hotel to me.

We’ve lived in our house for over a year and I’ve only given snippets of a tour on the blog. You’ve seen the nursery, the study, and the downstairs bathroom. I decided that I’m going to devote every Tuesday to posting photos of the house and give all of you a glimpse into our home. 

Last fall I posted about our plans for our hallway and our wedding and engagement photos. I never posted photos of the completed project. (We did meet our goal to have them hung by Halloween though) Then the other day, my friend, Kate, asked for real life photos for her own gallery wall inspiration. We took all of our wedding and engagement photos and then we recently had Millie Holloman come take photos of Hudson. We plan to use Millie’s photos to fill up most of the rest of the wall.

 

 

The goal is to cover the wall from top to bottom with family photos. I used to love standing in the hallway at my grandparents’ house and looking at the pictures of everyone. We would stand there and count to see who had the most pictures of themselves in their hallway. I’ll post pictures when we get the rest of the photos hung up.

ETA: Many of you left comments asking where we purchased the frames. A local frame shop did them for us. It wasn’t inexpensive, but many of the photos were printed in unusual sizes so it was difficult to find ready made frames for them. The shop did, however, have some museum quality ready made frames that already had mats cut to fit. They told us that they would just put new mats in the frames to fit the photos, so that saved us a lot of money so we didn’t have to have all of them custom framed. There are about three or four that had to be custom framed. For the 5×7 and 8×10 photos that we ordered, we just purchased those size matted frames at Pottery Barn. It was important to me to buy frames with protective glass and museum quality mats to protect the images over time.
