Hudson is 6 months old

Dearest Hudson,

You turned six months old on December 5 and it’s so hard to believe that you have been here with us for half a year. Of course it feels like longer than that because we spent nine months prior to that awaiting your arrival in June. These past six months have been the most exciting of my life and it’s hard to even imagine life without you here.

Now that you are six months old, it seems like we have a completely different boy in the house. Everyone told us that six months was a huge turning point, but it was seriously like magic. You were a wonderful, beautiful, sweet baby before, but now, all of a sudden, you have just changed before our eyes. You rarely cry and you spend so much time during the day entertaining yourself and playing.

About a week after you turned five months old, you began sitting up on your own for long periods of time. What a huge accomplishment! And I know that this makes you so happy that you’re finally able to experience the world around you from a vertical position. You love life and you are happy to express that feeling to anyone you see.

Also, about a week after you turned five months old, your two little bottom teeth broke through your gums. Now those two teeth are completely in and your smile has completely changed. Now when you smile, you’re very careful to move your bottom lip down just enough so you can show off your brand new pearly white teeth! You also jet your jaw out when you smile just to make sure no one misses those teethies. (Yes, mommy has brought out the baby talk when mentioning your “teethies.”) Someday you’ll let us get a picture of these teeth that you’re so proud of!

You love your sweet Boudreaux and Fiona. Boudreaux loves you, too, and Fiona is a little nervous when you reach out to touch her. But our Boudreaux just wants to lick your face until there’s nothing left to lick. He loves you so much! You also got to meet Beaux, who is mommy, Uncle Walker, Poppy and KK’s family dog. Beaux is the best Golden Retriever in the world and we are so happy that you were able to meet him. He’s 12 years old now and may not be with us much longer.

You are loving all of your fruits and vegetables. We moved you into your high chair last week and that has been a great experience for all of us. It’s so much easier to feed you like this and you seem to enjoy sitting at the big table with us. Your favorites are squash and bananas, but you really do love it all.

I took you in for your six month well visit yesterday so you could get your shots and just a regular check up from your doctor. You weighed 22.1 lbs and measured 28 1/2 inches long. You are still off the charts in both height and weight. Your growth has been so consistent and we’re just thrilled that you are healthy.

You talk and babble to everyone you see and you really are such a friendly, outgoing little boy. You’re always so happy to see your grandparents and mommy and daddy’s friends. You especially love your Sunday school teachers. They gets lots of love every week from you.

You have always loved your bath, but now you get to sit up in the bath tub and we let you hang out in there for a long time just so you can splash around. It’s going to be so much fun to get you in a swimming pool someday soon! You have also started responding even more to music. You wave your hands around when you hear a fun song and we swear you’re dancing. I have been listening to a lot of Christmas music in the car, and I can hear you humming very lowly from the backseat and my heart just breaks a little with happiness every time I hear your sweet voice.

Hudson, we are so proud of you. I knew that I would love this stage in your life and now that it’s here I want time to stand still. But I know that you have to grow up and that I will love each moment with you even more than the earlier moments. You are a joy and the best thing that has ever happened in our lives. We love you so much.

Now for the growth comparisons next to our favorite monkey:

6 months- a big boy!

Hudson is 5 months old!

Hudson turned 5 months old on Thursday, November 5. What a day! I cannot believe my sweet baby boy has been with us for almost half a year. He is the joy of my heart and the light of his Daddy’s life. We couldn’t be more blessed with a better baby and we thank our Lord every day for bringing him into our lives.

I know I’ve said this before, but I look forward to seeing his smiling little face every morning when I go to get him out of his crib. He’s usually babbling in there and I hate to interrupt his little conversation he has with his mobile. But I can’t wait to hold him and steal all of his sugar!

It is such a pleasure and a privilege to be able to witness all of his special moments. Many moms want to freeze time and stop their babies from growing up and I do feel that way to some extent. But I only feel that way because I can’t believe how quickly 5 months has passed and I know that the next 18 years will go by just as quickly! That being said, however, I enjoy every day even more. He is so much fun now and he’s a funny little boy! We just know that he’ll bring tons more smiles to our faces and make us laugh every day!

Look how my boy grows!

(it’s obviously getting harder to get him to smile on command without being completely distracted!)

  • Hudson is wearing all 9 month and 12 month clothes. In Magnolia Baby and Kissy Kissy he is wearing 12-18 months. Yowza! He weighed 19 pounds about 3 weeks ago at his sick baby visit. His Jump ‘n Go only allows up to 25 lb babies, so I hope he slows down a little bit!
  • He’s still a rolling machine. We had to get a bigger blanket for the floor because he can make his way clear across the room before I know it!
  • He’s a bouncing machine. He can entertain himself for nearly 45 minutes in his Jump ‘n Go. It’s so much fun to watch!
  • He has become quite interested in Boudreaux and Fiona. They walk by and he starts babbling at them. If he is close enough to reach them, he’ll stick his little hands out to give them a pat.
  • He has started grabbing my face when I hold him and talk to him. Such a sweet little feeling!
  • He has found his voice– and it is loud. I’ll post a video sometime of us doing our exercises, but when we do his “sit up” exercises and pull him up, he sounds like a wild animal.
  • We’ve heard a few more giggles. I would guess that he has giggled out loud about 10 total times. We think he’s either lazy or scared or of it. But when he laughs we always wish we’d gotten a recording of that precious sound!
  • He gobbles up 4 ounces of rice cereal and half a jar of banana baby food every morning. And he has mastered all of his vegetables without allergies so far. We’re back to green beans this week– not his favorite, but he tolerates them. He particularly loves green peas and squash. Mmmmmm boy!
  • He can hold himself in a sitting position for a minute or two before losing his balance. He kind of supports by resting his arms on his legs. He’ll get it one day!
  • Bath time is still his favorite time of day.
  • As I mentioned last week, he goes to bed at 7:15 or 7:30 every night and sleeps until 6:30 a.m. without waking up. We’ll go in and feed him a bottle, put him back in his crib, and he’s back to sleep until 8:30 or 9:00 a.m. Good boy!
  • He turns on his tummy immediately after being put in his crib and this definitely has me worried all through the night. I’m constantly checking the monitor to see where he is and if he’s okay. He ends up scooting his way up into the corners of his bumper pads, so we’re about to replace them with some breathable bumper pads. I would just go without anything, but I need to protect his head from those bed rails.
  • We purchased our BOB Stroller Strides Revolution today. I loved all of your recommendations! Hudson loves his walks, but the Bumbleride is not so easy to push on my 3 mile treks every day. I’m so excited for our new stroller!
  • Hudson loves the church nursery every Sunday and we always feel 100% confident leaving him there with the sweet ladies. He’ll “promote” to the “crawlers” class as soon as he can start sitting up on his own. We have a feeling that will be pretty soon!

Hudson: 4 months old

Hudson turned 4 months old on Monday and we just had his 4 month appointment yesterday. He got two shots and got weighed and measured. He weighs a whopping 18.1 lbs and measures 26 3/4 inches long. His height and weight put him above the 95th percentile. We know he’s growing!

Here is his 3 month picture next to his funny monkey friend and his 4 month picture in the same chair next to the same monkey.

Loving his Jump ‘n Go!

img_0874

Here are his latest milestones:

Hudson still loves to be upright.

He is rolling over all the time– in all directions (left to right, right to left,  back to front and front to back)

He pushes up when it’s time to get out of his carseat. His little legs stiffen and he almost pushes up on his own.

He is babbling all the time! Such a great sound.

He blows little raspberries and enjoys hearing himself spit.

We’ve heard a giggle twice now– and shamefully it was when Todd and I were singing “Rump Shaker” to him.

And our pediatrician encouraged us to go ahead and feed our big boy some rice cereal with a spoon. He was a bit confused, but he liked it. He made a huge mess, of course, but that’s all part of the fun!

announcing… John Matthew Hudson Carroll

I think everyone should have received their birth announcement in the mail by now, so I can go ahead and post it here.

The birth announcements were designed by Millie Holloman’s brother, Brent.
