the Bee Gees are the bee's knees

  • I keep having to cancel hair appointments. When I schedule the hair appointment I forget to line up a sitter for Hudson and Hayes. Then when the appointment gets closer I can’t find anyone. My roots are getting bad. This is how I ended up with dark hair. I must get a highlight!
  • My mom called me all excited this morning about how great Glee was this week. She wasn’t kidding. We love some disco! And we love the Bee Gees.
  • I never mentioned that Hayes has hand, foot and mouth this week. Joy. It really is the plague. It’s incredibly contagious and turns sweet, content children into angry, frustrated, sad little people who are in pain that they can’t communicate.
  • When I finished reading Divergent, I was looking for something new, light and quick to read. I need books to really reel me in these days or I can’t get past the first 50 pages. I started reading Fifty Shades of Grey and finished within 24 hours. Yes, I’m admitting it. And now I’m reading the second book and can’t put it down.
  • Hudson loves playing in his room and he’s usually pretty orderly about it all. I walked in yesterday and discovered that every single puzzle piece to every single puzzle was spread over his floor. He said, “uh oh! I made a mess!” Umm yeah, buddy. So I told him he had to put every single puzzle back together before supper and he did it. Quickly, I might add.
  • We need a TV show to watch. We can do Netflix Instant or find something current. But without Damages, Homeland, Lost, Friday Night Lights and all of our other favorite dramas, we just need a show! We can’t get into Dexter- it just makes my stomach turn. Do y’all have any suggestions? We each watch our own individual favorites, but we like finding dramas that we can both get into.

*I should add that we have watched Downton Abbey, a couple seasons of 24, and we’ve seen the past season and are watching the current season of Mad Men.

  • Hudson also managed to miss his nap yesterday. But he never got fussy. He was just hilarious! He played quietly in his room instead of napping, which is fine. But when “nap time” was over he just jabbered and jabbered. He did not stop. He was so wired. And it was hilarious! (Not that I hope he makes a habit of it or anything.)

I’m telling you — SONS OF ANARCHY! It is ahhhhmazing. I know, I know. I thought… hm, a show about bikers? I won’t like that. But we loved it. Watched all the first seasons in a matter of days. Great drama and a HOT leading man.

We also loved “The Wire” on HBO. We watched all 5 seasons of that in like a month. It’s pretty violent though, but the plot is good and there are some funny characters.

Rob watches that show “Game of Thrones” on HBO. The second season just started. He’s obsessed, but I’m not one for “mystical” type things.

We used to lurrrrve 24. The first few seasons were the best IMO. I don’t even think we watched the final season because life got too busy and those shows take FOREVER to watch. There are 24 episodes per season, hence “24” (24 hours in a day… each episode is an hour of “real time” in whatever is going on) But yeah, that show is awesome.

Note to self: we watch way too much tv.

Hey girl. My husband and I started watching The Client List on
Lifetime. It is so good so far! Only 2 episodes have aired so it would be easy to catch up! I know it sounds a little risqué, but it really is a good show, and not as risqué as I had thought it would be!

  3. says

I’ve heard wonderful things about Game of Thrones- dying to try it. I’ve read the first two books and LOVED them. Have you guys gotten into Parenthood?

I’ve heard SO many things about Shades of Grey that I am just going to have to read it myself. Not sure two weeks before my due date is the best time to start, but whatever!! Have a wonderful weekend with your boys!

  4. says

Love the bee gees!!! My daughter, 3 in July, has taken to dumping toys… Puzzles , play food , it is driving me to the brink of insanity! She and her buddies stuff toys from one side of a room into containers, baskets , window sills like little hoarders…HELP!!

  5. Elizabeth R. says

Have you tried Downton Abbey yet? Watch the first episode on Netflix and if you’re hooked you can get the DVD’s! It is SO good.

  6. says

Erin, have you and Todd tried HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’? I noticed a few other comments recommending it, and I have to agree. My husband convinced me to watch it with him, and I got hooked. It’s on Netflix, so you guys should be able to watch at least the first season. Advice: Don’t get turned off by the first episode. They throw a lot at you in the first episode (for shock value? in hopes of getting people to watch the second episode?) but it calms down a lot after that. You’ll see what I mean if you watch;) It’s def a show that you and the hubs could both get into. We also love the ABC Wed night line-up of The Middle, Suburgatory and Modern Family – but those are all comedies, so if you’re looking for more of a drama, that’s not the way to go. Good luck! PS: I was debating on whether or not to read ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, but now that you’ve read it, I think I might just have to see what all the hype is about!

  7. says

I also second Downton Abbey! I just started watching it and it’s amazing. Other shows that are really good right now are Mad Men and Breaking Bad. I couldn’t get into Dexter because of the gore either, but Breaking Bad doesn’t bother me.

  8. Elizabeth says

Downtown Abby!! It is so so good. There have been 2 seasons and the first is on Nerflix. It’s only 7 episodes so you will get through it quickly.

  9. Kelly says

Game of Thrones and Justified are great shows for both of you. Game of Thrones is a little, um, graphic sometimes but it’s so addictive.

  10. says

Current shows that Lee & I both enjoy are Revenge & Castle. We’d also really like to get caught up on The Good Wife (we’ve only seen season 1). We also used to really like Army Wives but lost touch with when it was on during the move last year.

  11. Jennifer says

Did you ever watch House? If not, start with season 1. I’m into Parenthood, but I sure get weepy…probably because I can identify with it so much as a mother.

  12. says

Glee was so good this week! I loved the Fifty shades trilogy… I finished all 3 in one week! I can’t wait for Insurgent to come out because I loved Divergent!

  13. says

I tend to watch mindless tv… Parenthood, Castle, Revenge, NCIS.

My 3 yr old loves puzzles and I hate how messy they can be. She’s will do puzzles with 25-100 pieces now but if they all get dumped out of their bags it’s a disaster! I, being completely OCD, decided to name each puzzle and then label the back of each piece so that I know what piece goes to what puzzle. It’s helped tremendously!

  14. says

I was in love (and still am) with Friday Night Lights! I think I read somewhere that Kyle Chandler will be on a new show soon, so I know I will watch that! Love Coach!

I started Mad Men last weekend while my husband was at a hockey game, and I’ve been watching it everyday during naptime. I think I’ll probably finish season 2 tonight while he’s at the playoffs!

We just recently finished Rescue Me (which I also enjoyed), but I also love watching The West Wing (I missed the last few seasons).

  15. says

Have you all tried Revenge? It’s a bit campy but for some reason, we are into it. We also watch Vampire Diaries together (yes, we are in our 40’s!) 🙂 We also like True Blood and will be so ready for it to start back up. I haven’t tried Game of Thrones, I am afraid I’ll get into it and I really don’t need another show to watch.

  16. step moMster says

praying for sweet little hayes. wound up hudson sounds hilarious 🙂

inspired by your blog, i’ve been very busy making a home: trying to make the single dad/bachelor pad i moved into livable home until we move next month (yikes!), and working on my home organization notebook (so late to this party!) – by first figuring out what routines makes sense for us and getting template and printable ideas from all link-ups you posted last summer, ordering: family stationary, calendars & planners, learning to cook… it’s a big job and feels overwhelming. i don’t know how you do it with such grace, erin!

maybe a little down time with a good (or delightfully trashy) book and an hour or 2 of television is just what the doctor ordered. i’m must admit that “dance moms”…and now “dance moms miami” is all i watch these days. “downtown abbey” sounds right up my alley. i also need to catch up on “mad men”. i so loved the first two seasons and then dropped off.

i’m going to make a point of building in some entertainment time THIS weekend!
okay – off to put the apartment back in order and figure out what to make for dinner tonight before getting myself ready and off to work. have a great weekend, my friend!

  17. says

Parenthood is so great! I just finished watching all three seasons. And it’s made by the same people who made FNL, so it has some of the same characters (Vince has a supporting role for about a season and Billy Riggins also makes an appearance)!

  18. says

I too admit to having been completely addicted to 50 Shades of Grey. Book 2 was great and book 3 will not disappoint you either. 🙂 Have a great weekend!

  19. Rachel T says

i’ve been watching “touch” with keifer sutherland. It’s hard to get used to him not being Jack Bauer, but it’s an interesting show.

  20. lmc1971 says

I also suggest “Breaking Bad”, it’s so so good…you won’t be sorry. Also we LOVED “Boss: w/Kelsey Grammar, the acting is beyond amazing. We also just started watching the 1st season of Game of Thrones but honestly is pretty salascious and confusing…not sure if I’ll make it through. Oh, almost forget, my hubs also watches “Justifed” also very very good. If you enjoy British series, I’ve recently watched a few episodes of “Luther” and “Sherlock” both very smart shows. Another classic is American Horror Stories but it is not for the faint of heart so maybe not something you’d be into… Let us know what you decide!
    Happy weekend, Lisa

  21. Colleen says

We love “How I met your mother” it’s a great show and lots of seasons so it can take awhile!

    Good luck!

  22. says

We watch a few dramas together: Mad Men, The Walking Dead, and Justified. We were huge LOST fans! Have you tried Alcatraz? It has a familiar LOST feel to it.

I watch Smash and Missing on my own when I have the time.

We watch a few comedies too: The Office, 30 Rock and Modern Family. And I like several silly reality shows: OC & NJ Housewives and Bethenney.

  23. says

Parenthood is really good, I love that show! Also Army Wives, which my husband will sometimes watch with me. My sister watched Prison Break and really liked it. And Twin Peaks, which is from the early 90’s. It is kind of weird, but we kind of like it. I was only 10 when it came out and I remember my aunt being obsessed with the show. Might be worth a try.

  24. Kristine says

The Good Wife is a great drama with really good acting. I don’t know if you can get the first couple seasons on netflix yet.

  25. says

You might like White Collar, my husband and I watch that together. Our favorite show is probably Downton. We sometimes like the Good Wife too.

  26. says

Fifty Shades of Grey is my jl book club book this month. I told my neighbor last night and she said it would be quite a discussion. I have it on my nightstand, but don’t want to start because I heard its impossible to put down.

I’m loving Scandal, I watch it on tha ABC app, it would be appealing to husbands as well. I also like smash, and parenthood.

  27. September says

I really like most of the USA stuff: White Collar, In Plain Sight, Suits–White Collar is my favorite, though. The Closer is good, and I know people who didn’t like it but my husband and I LOVED Saving Grace (which is probably–and surprisingly–the most pro-Christianity show I’ve ever seen on network television). I’ve heard good things about Breaking bad and Parenthood, both are on my “list”.

Oh, and if you’ve never seen Fringe that’s probably our #1 fave show to watch together; just be sure to start from season 1 or you won’t get everything.

  28. Ali says

My parents love Big Love– I haven’t ever gotten around to watching it but it’s addictive. I am obsessed with The Good Wife!

  29. says

My husband and I watch ‘Justified’ together….really good show! This season just ended, but you should start from the beginning 🙂

  30. says

We LOVE Phsych! It comes on USA and we both laugh the whole time! Watch it more than once so you “get” the characters! Funny and clean! Also, I love Covert Affairs when it is on!

  31. says

I can’t wait for Insurgent to come out! Have you read Matched? I’ve heard it’s similar to Divergent and Hunger Games. I’m on the waiting list at the library.

My all time favorite show is The West Wing. It’s old but if you haven’t seen it, I really recommend it. There’s seven seasons so it would keep you entertained for a while! Parenthood is great. So is The Good Wife.

  32. says

OMG! OMG! OMG! I am so glad that I am not the only one a) who read Fifty Shades of Grey so fast (I’ve at this point finished the trilogy) and b) was a little scared to admit it for some reason!

  33. Brie says

Like a few other mentions, my husband and I also really loved Friday Night Lights, Parenthood, and The Wire. We only let ourselves watch 1 episode of The Wire each week to make it last longer (we are in Season 5). Have you tried Brothers and Sisters? I just started watching Missing, it feels similar to 24 and I still love Bones!

  34. says

Girlfriend: BROTHERS & SISTERS!!!! We only watch Netflix instant, and I quickly became obsessed with this series. I started in January, and am now finally on the 5th season (100 episodes). Warning: you may cry during every episode and become obsessed with the Walker family. Great TV Drama! I also started Parenthood, and I like it but am only on the 3rd episode.

  35. Dodie Young says

Season 1 of Game of Thrones is out on DVD/Netflix. First show my husband and I have enjoyed together in a long time. Definitely violent but amazing story and characters. Season 2 is currently showing on HBO.

  36. says

If you like Friday Night Lights you will love Parenthood! The first few seasons are on Netflix but the next season is getting ready to start. Also, Smash is a new drama tha just started with Katherine McPhee. It is all about Broadway and I absolutely adore the drama and music in it! You can catch up on the last few episodes on Hulu.com (which you can sync to your blu ray player like Netflix) but it is currently on Monday nights.

  37. Amy K says

Parenthood is AWESOME! I cant believe that no one has mentioned the new ABC show Scandal!!! OMG! I am obsessed!!! Even my husband (who hates ANY fictional TV) loves it! Last night was the 3rd episode! RUN TO YOUR TV AND WATCH IT!!

  38. Liz says

I forgot to add that 24 is great to watch on DVD. That’s how we did it and it was so easy to follow. We also watch Revenge, and I think it is called Missing, it is a new show with Ashley Judd. It feels like you are watching a movie.

  39. says

My husband & I love Justified, although this last season just ended. Other dramas we’re currently watching are Revenge, The Killing, Person of Interest (with Ben Linus from LOST) & the new NBC drama Awake, which is surprisingly good!

  40. says

I am hearing endlessly about Fifty Shades of Gray! My goodness, it must be good!

I’m assuming you already went through Army Wives? Because if not, you NEED TO.

  41. Michelle says

Finish 24. We are doing Mad Men now. Sons of anarchy is really really good. Good wife is good. House would be a good one. We never got into Downtown Abbey. I need to try Parenthood. Oh Big lOve is really a good one also.

  42. says

My favorite shows are: Parenthood, Modern Family, Revenge, Army Wives, and I just started watching The Client List (which I’m really enjoying). I also own several seasons of old school The Office and it doesn’t get much better than that. I really think you and your hubby would both enjoy Parenthood or The Office (on DVD). I laugh AND cry at least once during every single episode of Parenthood and I feel like I’m watching a movie instead of a 1 hour tv show. It’s really THAT good.

  43. says

the hubs and i are exactly the same way…we have are own shows but then love to find a new series and watch it together like lost, sopranos, dexter and any dateline that comes on. and i seriously cannot wait till homeland comes back on. the only series we have going right now together is “the killing” and we’re going to try and start “breaking bad”.

so glad you recommended that book…i couldn’t decide if i should give it a go or not. i read this post earlier and when i was at the grocery store in the bestseller section i picked up what i thought was 50 shades of grey, but turned out to be “different shades of gray” also on the bestseller list so bummed…totally got tricked on that.

  44. CampDallas says

I have to read that book – I have heard SO much about it!! Don’t you miss Friday Night Lights? It was one of our favorites!! I am glad you are watching Mad Men…my husband and I just LOVE it. If you haven’t watched from the beginning, I highly recommend starting with Season 1…the character development is super! We have also enjoyed the HBO series Entourage and Big Love. Definintely something to watch after kiddos are in bed, but both get you hooked easily and you find yourself saying “just one more episode tonight’!! 🙂

  45. Lisa Ash says

My main suggestion was going to be “Breaking Bad” which is just fantastic. If The Wire is on Netflix, I’d happily watch them all again – it was amazing. And, not knowing you, I don’t know if you’d like the humor, but “Weeds” is good for 25 minutes of hilarity – every time. There are 76 episodes on netflix.

  46. says

Have y’all seen The Firm? It comes on NBC on Saturday nights – BEST SHOW EVER! Seriously! It’s sooooo good! Just started this season, so you’ll prob have to catch the past episodes online…

  47. says

You should check out Breaking Bad. I wasn’t sure if I would like it because it’s fairly dark, but it’s so well done and incredibly suspenseful. We powered through the first 3 seasons the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy and are dying for season 4 to come out.

  48. says

We love GCB! It’s hysterical!! It’s a little more girly, but the humor is ridiculous. I tried to watch Game of Thrones with J but it was too graphic for me. Good luck!!

  49. says

I’d recommend: Army Wives, Missing, Revenge, and Modern Family. But I appreciate all the other suggestions from your readers. Will definitely keep them in mind for some summer tv watching.

  50. says

Oh! I can’t believe I forgot to mention my other new favorite, “Awake” on NBC. It’s about this detective who was in a car accident with his wife & son. Now, he wakes up one day and his wife is still alive. He goes to work and has one partner and everything seems pretty normal. Then, he goes to bed and the next day he wakes up and his son is still alive but his wife died in the accident. He also has a different partner at work and they work on different cases. He has 2 different psychiatrists and they both try to convince him that he is in “real life” when he is with them and he is “dreaming” otherwise, but everything feels like real life to him. It’s so so interesting! (And, by the way, I just learned that the main actor does the voice for Handy Manny – hahaha!)

  51. Christy says

I just finished Divergent too and went straight into 50 Shades of Grey — oh my gah!!! Not what I’m used to but so couldn’t put it down! About to start the 2nd one now. (I actually went to read it because Kristin Hannah asked for book suggestions on her fb page, that was one of them.)

If you like Mad Men, you might like Boardwalk Empire, its an HBO series and very good, kind of the mobster stories of the 1920’s, with sex and alcohol prohibition thrown in. We are Netflixing disk 3 now and I’m hooked. 🙂

  52. says

I just recently read The Vow. I don’t consider myself a reader at all and finished it in less than 12 hours. Not that the literature was just amazing, but the story is truly inspiring.

  53. Cheryl says

LOVED the Fifty Shades trilogy… I stayed up until 3am reading the first book last weekend and then read the rest of the trilogy by Tuesday… but now I miss Christian and Anastasia!

  54. Jessica R. says

“Justified” is a FANTASTIC show that is underrated. Smart, well-written, funny but also thought-provoking. And Timothy Olyphant is to die for. :0)

  55. Amanda says

Uhhh I’m confused. I happened upon an article about the fifty shades of grey book the other day and judging from the article it sounded basically like porn? Did I misunderstand?

  56. chrissta says

Try Parenthood on Netflix (there are 2 seasons). Warning – every episode will make you cry for a different reason. It has great people and great stories.

  57. Mairs says

I just started getting into Parenthood on Netflix, love it! I hardly ever watch tv but love this show is great.

  58. says

    Hey Erin 🙂

I hate having to cancel any appointment, and I’m sure this stems from me working in a dental office. I’ve had to cancel a few myself lately too but thank goodness I’m going next Monday!! (can I also admit I’m ready for a good 2 hr peace n quiet all by myself too haha).

Scot and I watch more comedies than dramas so I wish I could help you there girl! We love Raising Hope, 2 Broke Girls (prob my FAVE show from creator of Sex and the City), and Big Bang Theory. Aside from that we watch a lot of reality tv. Do tell if you get some new shows to tune into though!

That’s awesome that Hudson does so well playing in his room by himself!! We aim for Quiet Time an hr after lunch each day but Ryder rarely stays up in his room the full hour. How do you get Hudson to do so well by himself? And yes the hand foot mouth is DREADFUL and quite disturbing! Ryder brought it home from daycare literally the last week before he started staying home w me before I had Brynley and though he never had it, he carried it to my husband! We were freaked out bc my husband got the sores on his feet and it was the craziest thing! We were like good riddance daycare!

We love Modern Family and I simply cannot go without The Good Wife on CBS. An absolute must in my book!

And so sorry to hear about the HFM! My son had a very mild case but in a rare turn of events, my husband got it from him! He was insanely miserable for a solid week. I know I say that men are babies when it comes to being sick, but he had every right. He wouldn’t wish it on his worst enemy. Hope your little guy is better soon!
