watch and you'll see… someday I'll be… part of your world!

Thank you all so much for your encouraging, honest comments, suggestions, and advice on yesterday’s post. It means a lot to me that you take time to share your thoughts with me.

It’s time for a Tuesday Brain Dump! Whoop!

  • Can you tell we’ve been watching a whole lot of The Little Mermaid around here? We can’t get enough of Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder (or Clownder, as Hudson calls him) and Scuttle. And Ursula (“octopus”) is just so scary!Β I decided to introduce Hudson to The Little Mermaid on Friday after his nap. (Yay, naps!) It was one of my favorites as a kid. But it is kind of girly, so I wasn’t really sure how it would go. But the movie opens up with fishermen, a big boat, and a fun dog, so I thought that might hook him (no pun intended) right then. And it did!Β He’s a fan!
  • We had been watching a whole lot of Beauty and the Beast, so The Little Mermaid is a welcome change. Hudson has all of the words to “Belle” memorized and it’s so funny to hear him say, “Bonjour… Bonjour… Bonjour, bonjour, bonjour.”
  • I’m not sure that Todd is a fan of The Little Mermaid, but he’s never even seen it.
  • Before I was even pregnant with Hudson I started collecting the Disney animated movies on DVD. We have a good many of them, but there are still a couple we don’t have. That darn Disney vault!
  • We watched Smash last night. I loved it! I am a big Katharine McPhee from the Idol days. (I voted for her a LOT and her Somewhere Over the Rainbow is my favorite version.) I also love Debra Messing and I am a big musical theater buff. Love it!
  • My mom sent me a text just after kick off for the Super Bowl on Sunday night. We were in Walmart. We missed kick off. We divide up our grocery shopping every week and get the produce and meat at Publix and then go to Walmart to buy everything else. Walmart was a zoo on Sunday night! Why did we decide to do our grocery shopping at the beginning of the Super Bowl?
  • I’ve never kept it a secret that I watch the Super Bowl just for the National Anthem. And whoa, Kelly Clarkson. She didn’t disappoint! Thank goodness my DVR got it for me, so I could watch it on Monday. I thought Kelly Clarkson looked and sounded amazing!
  • My very favorite Star Spangled Banner arrangement and performance was The Dixie Chicks back in 2003. Wow! Watch it on You Tube!
  • My whole Brain Dump is about TV and movies…
  • Todd and I have a date night coming up this weekend! We planned way ahead, scheduled a baby sitter, made dinner reservations and I’m excited! We’re going to see The Vow. (My choice, not his. It’s payback for when he chose Horrible Bosses.)

  • Hayes had four straight nights of uninterrupted sleep. Hallelujah! But then he was up at 1:30 this morning. Teething, ear infections, random bursts of excitement and the need to party at midnight have had him awake at least once per night for the last month. Hopefully he’s back to sleeping.
  • And he’s doing much better with his eating. He has always been so content to just have everything done for him. He’s a slow crawler. He never wanted to nurse and feeding him has always been something I worried about, so I’m so thankful that he is really starting to like food. (Thank you ALL for all of your suggestions. I need help and you are all so kind to help me! We’ve adopted a few “baby led weaning” principles thanks to so many of your suggestions and we’ve also found that he really enjoys Ella’s Kitchen baby food.)
  • Have y’all ever had a hair dresser who, despite your pleas, just didn’t do what you asked? And I don’t mean cut off three inches when you wanted two inches cut off. I mean you ask for blonde hair and you don’t leave with blonde hair. I see a hair stylist “divorce” in my future.

I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start! I had a great morning at Bible study, which was completely unexpected. I had completely forgotten that it was today, but I went ahead and had a great morning.

I have a few product reviews coming up over the next few weeks in addition to a couple of fun giveaways!

I’m also hosting a Kelly’s Kids trunk show for one of my oldest friends this week. Yay!

You know I adore you and loved your post yesterday-so honest. I completely hate myself when I lose patience with Carsyn. Somehow with her being sick I’ve corrected it somewhat.

Love everything Kellys Kids right now-have fun!!

And yay for date nights too-enjoy your movie.

Or you ask for BANGS and after the 3rd time of asking you still don’t have bangs. I had to go somewhere else finally. And by somewhere else, I mean my coworker’s office. Scary!

    Hudson’s red pants….OMG. He’s so fashionable! πŸ˜‰

My husband and I have been collecting classic Disney movies since we got married (3+ years ago) and we still have no kids in sight. Even though I don’t know when we will have a child I can’t imagine that child growing up without the old school Disney movies like Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White. The list of must haves is almost complete if only we could get Aladdin out of the vault!

We collect Disney movies as well. I should start trying them. With Braeden almost being 17 months I wonder if he would finally be interested. I remember knowing all the words to Muppets at that age oh and Grease, we loved musicals LOL We so need to plan a date night but being new in town we need to find a sitter we can trust. I have been keeping an eye out and plan on checking the church board! I can’t wait to sit down and watch Smash, I wanted Debra Messings hair once and paid tons of money to look like i had kool aid in my hair. I got some dye on a whim the other day did my own which I never do and wouldnt you know I have a color that I love just a tad more brown. Ok wow I guess I just did a brain dump!

I love love love The Little Mermaid! I think it was the first movie I saw in theaters. If I recall it was my second obsession after my initial love for both Mary Poppins & The Sound of Music (at the same time)…..anyway….your comment about if it’s girly reminded me of when one of my guy friends in High School proudly made the statement:

“I used to LOVE The Little Mermaid…and I’m just fine with that…it was way before anyone was really gender aware!”

It cracked me up but I think it is so true! Plus you are right…there are a lot of boy sidekicks and such! (Not to mention great songs!) Disney is great! (I’m actually on a Disney kick right now on Pandora……yes…at work…thank god for cubical walls and headphones…I’ve been lip syncing)

You may already have this one, but just in case, wanted to let you know that “Lady and the Tramp” came out of the vault today! That’s a classic Disney ‘must have!’ I don’t have kids yet, but have started picking up the Disney movies as they come out because, like you, I want my kids to be able to experience the wonderful films I got to growing up!

My husband and I have a date night planned for this weekend too that will be involving The Vow and I can’t wait! Love Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Chick flicks rule!:)

I started collecting Disney movies pre-baby as well. I watch the Target sales! And, I’m jealous of even one nightly wake-up. I was happy that we were down to four last night. We’re getting ready for sleep training because it’s getting worse, not better.

  8. Julianne says

Check half.com for Disney movies! I bought tons on there for a lower price and ones that are in the vault are on there!

  9. says

I collected a few Disney movies before we were even thinking about kids too! I get so annoyed with the vault thing. And I’m mad at myself for not just plunking down the money for a few of the movies while I could, because now who knows when they’ll come back out of the vault!

  10. says

Oh the Disney vault … they get you every time! I love collecting Disney movies and I’m sure they’ll come in handy as our Jack gets older.

And, now, onto finger foods. Ugh!!! I’m so dang frustrated. We do baby food and have tried some puffs and blueberries and bananas. Jack is so dang picky! It seems like if we try to feed him puffs not in the high chair, he eats them. If he’s in the high chair, he puts them in his mouth, gags and then makes himself throwup! What is the baby led weaning? I’ve heard about it, but don’t really get it!

Can you please share the tips and tricks you used with Hayes?!

My little guy is two weeks younger than Hayes and he straight up refuses to eat more than 2 bites of solids at a time. I’m about to lose my mind! Please help!!

    Hudson’s red pants are adorable!

Those little pouches of baby food are the best. So convenient – my little girl loved them! And I absolutely HATE when the above mentioned hair stylist issue occurs. It’s so frustrating. I’ve had to leave many a stylist just over that same situation, but finding a new (good) one is always such a challenge!

That is the same relationship I have with my hairdresser! She never does what I ask, drops bleach on my clothes, and even cut bangs without asking! I have been so loyal to her for 10 years and now my mom and grandma both go to her. I feel stuck!

I know a great stylist in Columbia if you need a new one!! Her name is Julie and she’s at the Green Hair Salon (Green as in Organic products not like you come out with Green crazy looking hair..ha) on Park St. right off of Elm. I recently changed and have been really pleased with her work.

Woohoo date night! Seems like a lot of people, myself included, have a date scheduled this weekend to see “The Vow”. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
Love that you started collecting Disney movies before you were even pregnant. We don’t have children yet, and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who plans ahead! πŸ™‚

glad your week is getting off to a great start…except for the hair dresser!!! why is breaking up with them sooooooo hard to do? i actually talked to my therapist about that today. i mean really? i spent my precious therapy time talking about how to quit my hairdresser?!! lol! also, thanks for yesterday’s post. you are an amazing mom. off to check out the dixie chick’s 2003 national anthem….

I’m a Hair Stylist…did your stylist give you any blonde??? You still have all blonde hair under that dark color so going back blonde in one appointment could be very damaging. It usually takes a while to get someone back to really blonde once they have gone dark..without damaging.

  18. says

Stylist divorces are the worst! I’m not going back to my old girl because she does not know how to cut my natural curly hair.
I loved Smash too! I think it will be a great show and I think Kat is excellent!

  19. says

I cannot WAIT to see “The Vow.” I have been itching to see if for months! I am also “forcing” my boyfriend to come with me. In fact, he doesn’t even know that we are going.. it’s a “surprise.” HA πŸ™‚

  20. says

Oh good, I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels the need to buy all meat and produce at Publix:) Walmart definitely has good prices on dry goods, but it always weirds me out to find food items in non-food sections that should not be there (i.e. ground beef left in the shoe section. not cool.)

  21. says

Can you share some of your strategies for getting Hayes to eat table food. I have a 8 month old who is not taking to picking up food in pieces and feeding herself. Even when I feed her chunkier purees from a spoon she spits out the chunks. The worst part is that she does fine with puffs. I have stopped giving them to her so that she will try real food.
I love your blog – thanks for all your honest and candid thoughts!

  22. says

I LOVE The Little Mermaid too! And yes, dang that silly Disney vault! You can find some of the movies on Amazon every now and then, but it takes a LOT of searching.

I know it might be a drive for you, but, I have been going to the same hairstylist for almost 10 years since I was at USC, she is now at Charlie Mack salon in Lexington and her name is Patience. I call her my miracle worker!

  23. Melissa says

If you want a good stylist for blondes in Columbia, you need to call Lauren at Flo Hair Studio (beside M Vista on Lady St). She does the best, most natural looking, blondes in Columbia (it’s sort of her thing). She has long hair and is very sensitive about cutting too much off for other people.

I’m a brunette saying this, but every time I go in, there’s a blonde that she’s just done leaving and I am consistently shocked that it’s not their natural hair color! I send all of my blonde friends to her and they love her.

Full disclosure – she’s my sister, but I would say this even if we weren’t related!

    Hey Erin πŸ™‚

I always love a good brain dump post and that’s why I started my blonde moment Mondays ha! I’ve taped Smash on DVR but have yet to find time to watch it. I love Debra Messing and saw her on Live with Kelly and it looked like a great show from what I saw! As a fellow blonde I was on the hunt for a good stylist who could give me “lake Norman hair” (which is the area I live in outside of Charlotte). I have had so many stylists try to give me blonde but I left with more dirty blonde than the vibrant blonde I’d had in mind. I love the girl I’ve been going to lately and have an appt thus Monday and can.not.wait!!!

My husband is like yours when it comes to loving my hair long and blonde, and believe me I’ve tried playing around with different looks and styles for a change. Yay Hayes for sleeping great lately! Brynley is 5 months and my nightly prayers are for her to sleep well and if she doesn’t, than for God to give me ENERGY whew!
