home tour tuesday: the master bedroom

Finally! I’ve been delaying showing you the master bedroom because it is such a large space and such a hodge podge of stuff!

It used to be the attic, but when the house was renovated and flipped, the entire attic was turned into the master bedroom and bathroom. You come up the stairs and it’s like being in a loft. You’re just already in the master bedroom.

Todd and I both came into this union with a queen size bed. My bed is being used in our guest bedroom and Todd’s was in our second guest bedroom (that I mentioned was turned into the study), but is now in storage. The space for the master bed was very large, so we decided to get a king size bed when we got married.

We ordered the bed from Calico Corners and picked up the upholstery fabric. The bedding was ordered from Eastern Accents and I love it so much! It makes the room so serene. We had the lamps before we got the bedding and I think it all goes together very nicely.

Before we got this bedding we were using my sorority t-shirt quilt on the bed because it was the only thing large enough. We couldn’t decide on bedding that we loved and I was reluctant to buy anything because, at the time, we had two dogs in our bed with us. I wasn’t about to buy some gorgeous silk bedding and then let the dogs get hair and drool all over it. Then I got pregnant and told those doggies that there just wasn’t room for me, my big fat belly, Todd, Boudreaux, and Fiona in the bed. So Boudreaux and Fiona had to go. We ordered our bedding and ordered a large dog bed from Orvis that would accommodate Boudreaux and Fiona.

I should have seen the inevitable. Before ordering the bed from Orvis, I already had a dog bed that was Boudreaux’s before he started sleeping in our bed. I ordered the large bed because everything one dog has the other one wants. So I just knew that they’d both end up in the bed at the same time. Wrong. Look who sleeps on the big ass dog bed.

And look who prefers to sleep on the floor because he wouldn’t be caught dead cuddling with Fiona.

So here’s the rest of our room. Lots of space, right? It has basically become a dog run where they play and romp every morning.

Then we have this other nook that I’d love to turn into more closet space. Right now we keep the Pack ‘n Play there in case I have to put Hudson in there while I’m doing laundry or taking a shower.

And here is our laundry area. It’s quite tiny (and full of clean sheets and towels! Yikes!)— in addition to a massive kitchen, my next house will have a massive laundry room.

img_0739

This is our closet. We do a decent job of sharing. Most of Todd’s clothes are stored in the two chests of drawers in the bedroom and my sweaters are stored downstairs in the dresser in the guest bedroom. Oh yeah, my next house will have two massive his and hers closets.

And the master bathroom.

So there’s our master bedroom. Sorry I couldn’t get it cleaned up anymore for you!

Hey there! I just stumbled on your blog, to be honest I don’t even remember how I got here, but I had to tell you that your master bedroom is gorgeous! Love, love LOVE the bedding and the animal print in the bathroom. Someday, when I get to redo our master bedroom I might have to steal some of your ideas 🙂

    Love your site!

Let me just say that this is very inspiring because we have a HUGE attic that we have talked about converting to a bedroom. I would love to see how your stairs lead up to this area.

Love the pic of fiona 🙂

cute! Love the bedding, and the monogrammed pillow just sets it off! We just bought an older house so I know how tight space can be. It’s teaching me to live with less though, which is a good thing. I would like a much bigger bathroom though.
We have an upstairs attic that we are going to use as a storage for now while we go through things to get rid of. Eventually, we’d like to make it another bedroom/office
Oh, and i love the silhouettes. I’m wanting to do this for us and put them in the hallway.

    Your house is so charming!

You have done a great job using a unique space. My husband and I looked at a lot of houses with a 1/2 story master bedroom and no one had used the space as well as you – at least the way they had staged the houses.

Love it all! If you can, would you mind sharing the company or quilter you used for your sorority t-shirts quilt? I have a huge box of my sorority shirts & a box of my fiance’s collegic sports team shirts that I’d like to send off. Thanks!!

Yep, still in love with your house! Fiona cracks me up. At our house, every time we buy a dog bed, the cat ends up taking it over. Then all 3 dogs are left sleeping on the floor around him. Little animal syndrome much?

It’s lovely!! Talk about a restful room – it’s perfect.

That picture of Fiona on the great big bed is absolutely adorable!! She looks quite happy snuggled in her very own king size bed 🙂

This is my first comment but I’ve had you in my Google Reader for a while now. Love your site and love Home Tour Tuesday! Oh, and your son is darling. I just had our 2nd in July. What a beautiful master bedroom. I have been struggling with ours for a while now and finally made an appt. with Calico Corners for next week to help with window treatments and pillows to coordinate with the Pottery Barn duvet I just got. You have fabulous taste and it sounds like you do it all yourself??? Bravo!

I love your Master Bedroom and Bath! It’s so nice! I love the big size of it, and we just ordered a bed from Orvis for our dog. Hope it ends up getting used! 🙂

Your house seems to have a really interesting layout…I love the loft-like master bedroom!

My dog sleeps in the bed now…was it hard to get yours to break the habit?

Your bed and bedding are gorgeous! I love the colors! You must have well-behaved dogs to sleep in their own beds. Mine not so much! He wants to be snuggled under the covers, which is why he has to sleep in his cage at night. Poor thing! haha!

I love your bedroom! We just purchased our first home, and we were lucky to end up with “his and hers” sides of the bathroom with our own closets. I think my husband appreciates it more than I do, because you know how we ladies tend to monopolize the closet space. 🙂 Also, you’ll have to tell us some time how it is being on a separate floor from Hudson. Our master is downstairs, but also large as we have a sitting room off it, and both bedrooms are upstairs. The sitting room will definitely be a nursery when we have kids until they sleep through the night, but just curious how it’s working out for you. It isn’t something I thought much of before we bought, since we’re still DINKs.

I love how much room you have up there, and what a great idea to have your laundry room up there. That photo of little Fiona on that huge bed is hilarious. It looks like such a relaxing space!

I love that pillow on your bed with your initials. I’ve always wanted a pillow like that. I like monogramming but just need to get more of it done. 🙂 Love the colors and all the accents in your room as well, like usual 🙂

I love what you did with the three pillows on the bed. I’ve had these euro pillows that I want to change and I haven’t decided what else to do. I think I’m going to copy you!
As a pet mom of a blended family, I have to ask if you and Todd each came with a dog? We have one little one and one big one and the little one takes over the huge dog bed in our house too!

Gorgeous bedroom! I love how big it is. Fiona definitely looks like she has claimed her spot and I don’t blame Boudreaux for not messing with her! 🙂

I love your bed!! And you know what else I just adore about your house? It is beautiful and lived in. Usually those two things don’t go together! I like to think mine is the same way.

I really like the doors being painted black. Was that your idea or a designer’s? It is just so chic and lovely. Perfect place for the pac ‘n play! xoxoxo

What a gorgeous Master! I love it! You also had me laughing out loud over the puppies…especially little Fiona on the bed all by herself! Haha. I am in the process of finding a new dog bed for my little princess!

Your bed looks so pretty and cozy. I love that you have the whole attic! What fun … and how pretty!

  19. says

Love your big bed and those two cute dogs!!

And I’m with you and the laundry room, big kitchen, and big his and hers closets! We must have the same dream home in mind 🙂

Okay, the picture of Fiona in the big bed just made me laugh!! Our dogs do the same things. The small dogs want the biggest beds, and the big dog?? He tries to curl up on the small beds! He wants to be a small dog so badly. 😉
Love your bedroom! Your bedding is beautiful!

Love your bed/bedding and the fleur de lis in your bathroom!!! 🙂 Such a cozy and nice loft to get away at the end of the day. 🙂 Thanks for sharing another beautiful room in your home! 😉

The picture of Fiona is priceless! I showed my hubs and he thought it was great!! Typical little dog 🙂 Your bedroom and bath is beautiful! I wish our was half that size. I’ve learned so much as a first time home buyer! Thanks for sharing.
