the accent vlog!

So my precious friend, Lulu, requested that I jump on board the accent vlog bandwagon. It seems she has an interest in Southern accents, so I felt I should oblige her this once. I have only watched one vlog so far, but I really want to go watch others now!

I got the list of words and questions from Jenna’s Journey blog and she has a link up going to see all of the others. So visit her blog to see more videos if you want to. I’m sure I’ll spend nap time watching them. Sounds like a great use of time! I got to watch part of Jenna’s vlog before the viewing was interrupted by something around here.

Here goes… as always, I ramble. And I say something about having a “happy weekend” at the end of it. I guess I’ve got the weekend on my mind since it’s Wednesday night? I have no idea.

The instructions are to say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you use to change the TV channel?

Too funny, I have mine set up to publish tonight and two of my “disclaimers” are that I ramble and I say “thank you” at the end. 🙂 I think I expected you to sound more southern, although I’m not sure why since we have friends in Greenville who have no accent at all!

I basically just said the same thing on Twitter– but you are so super cute! I love these vlogs, it’s a whole new window into the virtual friendships! Vlogging is kind of nerve-wracking! I ramble on too! 🙂

Hi, I’m Amy and I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana:) I think the rain while the sun is shining is “the devil’s beating his wife”. That’s what I have heard since I was a child:) Love this vlog. You DON’T sound very southern to me! But you say everything the way I do as well. Lots of people I know (including me, my husband, and now my kids) call their grandparents Maw Maw and Paw Paw. NO one in the Northern states that I have ever met has EVER heard of that! Too funny!

This is so funny! My father in law is from Rhode Island and refers to a buggy as a “carriage”. The first time I heard him say it I laughed so hard. It’s entertaining hearing what people from different places call things!

Would you stop being so cute, you’re going to make me look even goofier! 😉 I loved, “or would you like a Coke Coke” hehe, cute mama 🙂 Have a good night, friend!

That was so well done! Not sure I could do it. Too shy!
I noticed everyone gets hung up on the grandparents. It’s like we all love them so, that we can’t just honor them with a quick name or two…cute names they have.
I’m from 14 different states, so I say “cart” and “soda”, and “sear-up”, “COO-pawn”, “tennis shoes” but my mom says “sneakers” and “slacks” (pants). So fun to watch these.

This is too cute! I love Southern accents, can’t help but smile when I hear

What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
Would this be a sun shower? I was raised in Florida and I know that was what we always called it since it happened around 2-3 every day in the summer in Florida, when it did rain that is 🙂

What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining? We always said that it meant ‘the devil is beating his wife’.

So I read this on Thursday, and since I only work Monday through Thursday, it totally IS My weekend!

…and a Miss America pageant was a really good way to describe your last intro post, ha! Whoever Samma is – she’s one smart cookie 😉

You are the cutest thing EVER!! I loved this so much that I (for a second) even contemplated doing it myself. But then I remembered I’m not as cute as you 🙂

p.s. Still waiting for your tips on how to get back into my size 6 clothes…

I had never, ever heard of “the devil beating his wife.” We just called it a “sunshower.” Although now, thanks to this blog post, I finally understand the Better Than Ezra song “Cry in the Sun.” So thanks for that!

    Hey Erin!
I’m from Georgia and the first thing I thought of too was “the devil is beating is wife,” except I had always heard “the devil is beating his wife with a frying pan.” Guess my family made the frying pan part up! haha! Happy Labor Day Weekend Eve!

Oh my goodness – aren’t you just the cutest thing ever! I think your accent is darling, it makes you sound so sweet! These vlogs are so fun – gives life to all of the pictures we see of everyone!

You are so cute with your slight accent! I was figuring you’d be WAY more Southern sounding.

Up North we call buggy’s shopping carts and I’ve never even heard of someone “rolling”. It’s TPing where we are! I’ll never understand how you Southerners can call everything a “Coke” and not get confused! It’s just “pop” around here. Love your blog!

I love it! I guess we say things the same way in Alabama! Except that spider thingy is a “gran-daddy long legs”

Also, because I forgot to say this, I just love watching everyone’s videos because it is suddenly this insight into how you talk and now I get to read the rest of the posts in “your voice.” It’s funny how pictures and writing can give off one impression and the videos really make you feel like you’re really there!
