what's your strut song?

When you’re walking through the grocery store, pushing your buggy, do you hear music in your head that puts a bounce in your step? Or when you start off your morning walk around the neighborhood, do you like to start with the same song every day because it makes you strut? No? Just me?

I always think of this scene when I think of a person having a theme song.

If a song played every time you walked into a room, what would it be? If a song played every time you took a step, what would it be? I call it my “walk into the room song.”

About three years ago, I wrote a similar post asking for y’all to tell me your song. But since there are some new readers, I thought I’d open it up again.

My walk into the room song is American Girl by Tom Petty.

Other good songs that come to mind are Float On by Modest Mouse, Everyday People by Sly and the Family Stone, I Don’t Feel Like Dancin by The Scissor Sisters, Let The River Run by Carly Simon, and Wanna Be Starting Something by Michael Jackson. They’ve all got a nice “walking” beat.

Can you tell I’ve thought lots about this.

So, tell me. What is your “walk into the room song?”

Holiday–Green Day (mainly the chorus, love it)
Disturbia–Rihanna (again, the chorus. Figured this one out on the treadmill when I started strutting when it came on my iPod).

The first thing that immediately came to my mind (before I read the bottom of your post) was Everyday People. I think because of the movie Definitely, Maybe (the opening scene) and how I could watch Ryan Reynolds walk ALL DAY LONG!

    American Woman, the old version!
Funny that you like the Scissor Sisters, I love listening to their songs but I haven’t met many people who know who they are.

I LOVE that you have a soundtrack to life, too! My personal favorite is Beautiful Day, by U2. Nothing like a great reminder to look around and be grateful…while you strut!

Love this idea! Hmm…anything by the Black Eyed Peas pretty much makes me strut, but also Break Your Heart by Taio Cruz or Shove It by Santogold.

Mine is America Girl too! I actually used that as my processional at my wedding. I have friends in a band that did an acoustic slowed down version and it was amazing!

I can’t pick just one. My three would be:
    Teenage Dream by Katy Perry
Ready to Run by the Dixie Chicks (first on my running mix)
Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder

“St. Elmo’s Fire” by John Parr… I’ve spent the last 4 months drinking my voodoo tea every night with that song playing! Honorable Mentions: “Take Me Home Tonight” – Eddie Money and “Climb to Safety” – Widespread Panic (probably my favorite song of all time).

LOVE this post! I’m picturing you boppin’ down the grocery aisle right this minute 😉 2 come to mind for me right now… It’s a toss-up between Back In A New York Groove by KISS (obviously less effective than it was when we actually lived in New York, and were in an actual New York groove) and Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones (if only because I’m the proud owner of one mean Mick Jagger impression…) 😉 I’ll be rocking to these songs in the cube all day now, thanks for the little boost! xoxo

My all time #1 “strut” song is “Small Town Girl” by Journey. It brings back such wonderful and hilarious memories! How can you not belt that song at the top of your lungs and smile?!?

Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann.

Also, I like to listen to 9-to-5 by Dolly Parton on the way to work in the mornings. I am working 4 days as a corporate attorney with a 1 year old, so it is fitting.

If I had to look back and assign myself songs at different times of my life, I would definitely assign myself “Learning to Fly” by Tom Petty for college.

During my two years in DC after college “Mama told me not to Come” by Three Dog Night!

I think “Guess that’s why they call it the Blues” by Elton John feat. Mary J. Blige is probably a contender & “Midnight Train to Georgia” by Gladys Knight & the Pips might be a close second. Third place would have to go to “Climb to Safety ” by WSP. This was a fun post!

I’m No Angel by Gregg Allman and Boogie Shoes by KC and the Sunshine band!! Love “strut songs”
What a great post, enjoying reading everyone’s post and listening to the songs on Itunes.

I’ve always dreamed of having a soundtrack to my life! But I can’t choose just one strut song. So mine are “Beautiful” by Goldfrapp and “Freedom! 90” by George Michael.

I love to bop/strut around to Maxine Nightingale’s Right Back Where We Started, B-52’s Love Shack, and Black Crowes’ Hard to Handle. I bop/strut a lot so there are actually a whole bunch more, but these came to mind first.

    GREAT question!

On my sassy days/really good hair days: Crazy in Love by Beyonce and JayZ
When I’m strutting it outside: Where The Streets Have No Name by U2 (or maybe Elevation by U2…that’s a tough one!)
When I’m just having fun: You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon
College Rachel: Escape by Enrique Iglesias (I can’t believe I just admitted that!)

This is a fun game…I could come up with different scenarios and songs all day 🙂

I second Mrs. WASP! Mine too would be Uptown Girl by Billy Joel. I had a boy sing it to me on the playground when I was in 2nd grade! Everytime I hear that song it makes me smile…and strut! 🙂 I do love American Girl by Tom Petty though–that whole intro gets me jammin’!

I’ve had a great time “youtubing” everyone’s strut songs this afternoon! I am so excited that so many people have this. I call it my “entrance” music. For those moments/days when I have enough confidence to think that, even if everyone doesn’t turn and look at me, I look good enough to turn heads!
I have a few songs, completely depending on the time of year, place, mood, and outfit:
Black Betty (Ram Jam or Spiderbait) – walking into work!
Ain’t Nothing Wrong with That (Robert Randolph and the Family Band) – good for USC football games
Welcome to the Jungle (Guns N Roses) – this is good for any time I’m in a take charge mood!

Mine is definitely Semi Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. Always takes me back to the carefree days of 1997 🙂 Even though I know it’s about drugs and I’m soooo not into that. It’s catchy and I like it!

mine all time favorite is “the way you make me feel” by michael jackson. i also love miranda lambert’s “only prettier” (definitely a slower strut) and cee lo green’s “forget you” (the edited version, of course!)

Mine is totally “Pour some sugar on me” ALWAYS HAS BEEN! haha. Used to call it my “stripper song” and say if I was a stripper that would be my signiture song-hahahahaha! GREAT post!

I think I LOVE just about all of the songs that people mentioned above. I guess one of the first songs to pop up in my head when I read this post was, ‘Soulshine”, by the Allman Brothers Band. 🙂
