hello, again!

I can’t believe it has been a week since my last blog post. I always miss the interaction, but the break was nice. And if I’m not careful, I could very easily take another break this week! We haven’t been up to a whole lot, but I thought I’d share the highlights with you! Hudson is feeling so much better and seems to be back to 100% wild child, so I do appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers!

Big Date Day

TC and I needed some time to ourselves on Saturday to just relax, but we wanted to get out and do something. Or not do something. We asked TC’s parents if they could hang out with Hudson because we wanted to go see a couple of movies. One of things I miss most about our pre-Hudson days are just going to the movies. I always have a long list of movies I want to see, so we decided to see two movies on Saturday.

We dropped Hudson off at his grandparents’ house on Saturday morning and then we went to see Life As We Know It. I’m definitely a movie crier, but I can hold it together if it’s not all that emotional. I was crying all throughout this movie. It was so cute and so touching. And TC was even laughing out loud at certain parts. So I didn’t feel so bad for him having to sit through a chick flick.

After the movie was over, we had exactly two minutes to get to the theater across the hall to see The Town. This movie was so exciting and so smart. And my long-time crush on Ben Affleck and my new crush on Jon Hamm were both satisfied with this movie. TC and I both loved it and I would see it again right now!

After the movies, we went to Starbucks and then had about an hour to kill, so we walked around Best Buy. Which is one of our favorite things to do. We ran to pick up Hudson and rushed home to start watching the Gamecocks take on Kentucky. And that didn’t end well and that’s all I’m going to say about that. I’ve almost recovered from my frustration just in time for us to play again this weekend. It’s tough being a Gamecock fan!

Spending the day together was absolutely wonderful and we both kept giggling about how relaxed we felt and how nice it was to just take a day to enjoy each other’s company.

State Fair

On Sunday night, we went to the South Carolina State Fair with some friends. It was Hudson’s first trip to the fair and he really just hung out in his stroller the whole time. We ate some fair food and got some lemonade and just walked around for a bit. The fair used to be so much more fun when I was younger. Even just two years ago when I didn’t have a child and could ride the crazy fair rides without having to consider my child. But I had no desire to get on a ride and even the corn dog wasn’t as great as I remember. I’m such a fuddy duddy.

My mom is heading down to MD Anderson this week for some scans and a visit with her doctor. I still need to write Hudson’s 16 month post, which is almost a month late now, but this is a start back at blogging!

I hope you’ve all had a great week!

too many brain dumps lately?

I really do try to stay positive, but I also like to be honest without airing my family’s dirty laundry (we all have it, right?), but these past couple of weeks are kicking my tail!

  • In the last three weeks, Hudson has had an ear infection, a viral infection, and now the stomach bug. We were up late last night holding him in a towel trying to minimize the mess and keep him comfortable.
  • In these three weeks, my OCD ways have taken a major back seat… as in, their seat may no longer be at this house. My house is a wreck.
  • And Mrs. Organized? I even found myself digging through my handbag twice this week because I couldn’t find my keys at the bottom of my handbag. I’m falling apart.
  • I managed to do lots of laundry– or maybe TC did it while I napped on the couch. He was a little concerned that he didn’t have any clean underwear. I’m definitely wife of the year.
  • The mountain of clean laundry upstairs was finally folded thanks to my sympathetic husband who probably thought I’d burst into tears if I even started folding laundry. But now that it’s folded it’s just sitting there waiting to put away. And it’s been sitting there for a few days.
  • My dogs are on Benadryl constantly because the change in seasons (you know, from hot to less hot) has them itching up a storm. There is dog hair everywhere. And poor Boudreaux brings in all of the leaves stuck to his tail when he comes in from outside. Leaves and dog hair.
  • Even when Hudson is sick his spirits are still up and he just wants to be held and loved on, so you better believe I’m going to oblige.
  • Let’s not even discuss my eating habits and lack of physical activity other than the twice-a-week walk around the neighborhood.
  • This is not a pity party. I just want to let y’all know what’s going on and how big of a mess things seem to be right now. They’re okay and far form dire. But I’m a control freak and I’ve just had to let go.
  • And if my biggest problem right now is disorganization and a messy house, I know things are not that bad.

Okay, brain dump is over! Back to regularly scheduled blogging… or lack of blogging?

just some stuff

1. We’re still on our high after our Gamecocks beat top-ranked Alabama on Saturday at Williams-Brice stadium! It was such an exciting day and I’m so happy that I was able to be there with TC. ESPN’s College Game Day came to Columbia this weekend and they actually used the Horse Shoe for their set, which is a really hard thing to do. Only a handful of events have ever been held on the Horse Shoe, but it provided a beautiful back drop for Game Day.

We walked to the Horse Shoe from our house around 11:00 a.m. to catch the end of Game Day and the number of students and fans out there really impressed me. At its most crowded time, there were 9,000 people out there!

After Game Day, we headed to the stadium for a little tailgating before the game. It was a hot day, but our seats were in the shade by the time we got in the stadium. I’ve never heard Williams-Brice stadium so loud! Our fans wanted to win and our team wanted to win and I couldn’t be more proud. TC and I were pretty nervous the whole time and couldn’t really start to get a grasp on the fact that we might actually beat the #1 team in the country! It was just so much fun!

2. When we woke up on Sunday morning, we began to mourn. Remember our beloved Peter Parker? The spider who took up residence in the window above my kitchen sink? And laid three huge nests of spider eggs?

We had noticed that Peter Parker was acting a little disoriented. She had built a new web just for her in the other window and her legs were kind of shaky and her web was a mess. We have all read or seen Charlotte’s Web, so we had an idea of what was going to happen to Peter Parker. But we just weren’t prepared to see that she was gone on Sunday morning. Just gone! What a sad day.

Her three nests of eggs are still there in the other window and I’m pretty sure we’re going to have those removed so we don’t have a million spider babies around here. TC had said, “If she dies, we’re getting rid of the eggs, but if she sticks around until they hatch then they can stay.” So that’s what we’re going to do. But you can bet that I’m not going to be out there messing with any spider babies! Yikes!

3. TC and I have always laughed about Wilford Brimley and the way he says diabetes… “diabeetus.” We’ve made lots of jokes about if you have “diabeetus” you drive a Toyota Prius and we just get super silly and ridiculous. And no one else probably finds this funny at all.

The other day when I Googled Wilford Brimley’s name to look up his Wikipedia entry, I found this and fell out laughing.

4. I’m excited that we have two weeks in a row of away games…. but also pray that we can win both of those away games. It’ll be nice to have a couple of weekends away from the stadium.

I hope you’re all having a great Tuesday!
